I have a serious hissing sound on left front of the engine (3.9 6cyl) approximately around the distributor. It is a constant hiss very loud and does not change with revs.
Have checked all pipes but cannot find it. Have taken the air filter off held my hand over the intake and the hiss is still there. Holding my hand over the intake does not cause the engine to stall which means it is getting air froom somewhere else. Have removed and cleaned the ISC, checked the breather pipes and all appears to be ok. Any suggestions or ideas on what it is |

spray it aaround the suspected leak area sparingly (it's highly flammable, spray too much around and a stray spark or a dodgy plug lead might cause it to blow) if/when you find the leak, the engine will rev up a big, idle erraticly or just go off its tits!

So its not used to aid the situation its only to find out where the problem originates?

Yep inlet manifold gasket. Front cylinder gasket in particular. What an absolute bugger to fix. Big hands small spaces but got there in the end

shouldnt crack on a car that age, really its crazy if it has tho i know people have it happen regularly. Check ur pipes that come off the back of the inlet and then go into a little 4 way rubber connector and some of the pipes go into ur firewall. That tends to leak and u cant see it...wiggle them and you might block it (speaking from experiance lol). Mine was reving at like 1.3k rpm while i had this prob, too much air getting in.

btw on that note it might not be related to the intake system, it can be part of ur heater system and the vacum tubes leaking!
