Anyone know the figures on how much power reduction you get when you run your Air con or even when its switched off with the belt hooked up..(If any)

Ive done this!

With my AU at a dyno day we stuck it on the dyno and it only pulled 260rwkw. We were like WTF is going on.

Discovered that I left the air con on and turned it off and ran 290.

260-290 seems excessive concidering drive train losses this is about 35Kw. A Large room airconditioner is 6-9KW. Which is what I would expect for a car AC.

Have you done this on a dyno to test? Because I did and that is what happened.

Large room compressors dont run off the crank of your motor.

No I have not but as I said this seems excessive to me.

i would say 25-30kw would be possible.

with 300rwkw u would have lost around 80-90kw though the drive train as well.

the more power u make the larger the loss will be

If the aircon is switched off then it'd be only free spinning, but there is parasitic loss regardless. I have seen on a engine dyno around 35 odd horsepower difference with and without a mechanical engine fan so it is possible.

Thanks for the Responses guys. So you reckon the increase in power from installing thermo fans would be worth it and removing my A/C Belt just for a bit of extra bite?

If so, you guys know where sells good thermo fan conversions in my area? (Rockingham)

Is it hard to remove the Fan? would it cause any balance problems?
