Hello people,

Is it possible to make a conclusion or assumption of what the problem is on air-condition faults in less than 5 mins?

Took my car in to a person who did not charge to test my aircon, The person said he would need an hour or longer to do the test.

I told the person I'll wait as I have no other transport, no problem he said. I seen the person drive the car into the workshop, then another vehicle arrived, the person had a good chat with the driver of the other vehicle, must have been a good 15 mins.

Bloke then went back into the workshop and came back in less than 5 mins saying the compressor might have a leak (hardly any gas). He said no need to change orifice tube and receiver / drier still good...about $1,500 to replace compressor , add oil and gas and would need car for about 1 hour.

I said to the person I have another compressor and orifice tube.

He then said "If you can install the other compressor" cost will be $250.00 , includes oil and gas.

Does this sound a bit susc in just checking the aircon for about 5 mins and come up with the conclusion?

Thanks, I could not see my original post earlier.

As far as I'm aware of the system has never been exposed to the air except when those aircon blokes tried to regas long time ago but could not do so as there was a blockage somewhere, they could not say where unless they stripped the car and $2,500 to $3,000 later. I told them the fly a kite.

@ snap0964,

I've approached couple of aircon testing outlets, I've asked them to place dye and pump gas in the system, they said they need the car for a day.

Is that normal or is it the case of "pulling the wool over my eye", should only be 30 minutes I reckon.

I told them I'll think about it and get back to them later.

Evacuation and charging takes around 1 - 1.5 hrs. If there's a leak though, it needs to be on vacuum and left to sit for a few hours, so depending on what else they have on, a day is probably accurate. Leak/system testing is the biggest time consumer.
