Without going into the garage and looking at my ED that I barely drive, is the standard radiator core alloy or steel? I was looking for a new radiator on ebay and there are a few types that advertise alloy cores with the normal plastic end tanks... are these worth getting?

My 5L has a copper core so does my girlfriends EL XR6, and My sisters EF. My mates EL wagon also has a copper core. I didn't even know you could get them with an ally core form the factory (EF-EL).

Chef, I got a alloy one for my car off Ebay, $160 delivered, cheap. It seems to be good quality (hasn’t leaked yet... ) Although it hasn’t really made the car run any cooler.. I don’t think there is all that much difference between the copper and alloy ones.. I think Aussie desert coolers make a huge 3 core radiator for the falcons..

When my alloy one went on the AU with electrolisis. I fitted a copper core one.
Runs the same temp a bit heaver but less likely to suffer electrolisis ghaiman |

Runs the same temp a bit heaver but less likely to suffer electrolisis ghaiman Electrolysis is caused by stray current, usually a earth lead will stop it.

I dont see the point? I thought copper was a better transferrer of heat anyway? And as far as the heat, during normal every day running, it will stay at the temperature of the thermostat! So not seeing a change would be a good thing.

I had a 78 thermostat in, and the car was running at about 95, with the standard radiator, and the alloy one.. I only changed because last time I had the top radiator hose off it took most of the plastic housing with it, and the hose would only just clamp back on, so I had to do something.
I've noticed that on ebay they also sell a radiator that is about 5mm thicker then the standard. This might also help. |

Apparently EF thermos help heaps too. Mine only gets hot with the air con on, but its idling too low when the airs on and not blowing much air, if i rev it up it starts dropping the temp... cant beat a digital temp read out to know exactly whats going on. Yay wolf

Funny story about the old radiator. Only two months ago I had the tanks taken off and it all cleaned out. Wasn't I Pi**ed when it broke after only two months...
