i would try some aero start or something along those lines..
at least it can narrow it down.. if it dont start on aero start ill be looking back at ignition timing.. if it does fire up well the problem is in your fuel system.. |

u can alternately run power direct to the lpg sols...or run power to the FP relay permenantly... you should check with a test light wether u are getting power to the relays and sols Wouldn't the LPG ECU want to simply turn off the injectors, and fuel pump as well if they want to save energy, and independently send power to the LPG system?

i've seen this happen when the fuel lines have been put on wrong. easiest way to check is to disconnect both, and put them both in empty coke bottles or similar. turn on the ignition and you'll know which one is the send and which is the return.

I believe one of the features of the factory LPG ecu was that it cycled the Fuel pump every so often to keep fuel moving. I want one for that reason.

NEWS - The engine runs okay when the quantity of aerostart is about right.
I also purchased a fuel filter so that will go in tomorrow morning. I am wondering whether the fuel in the lines may have gelled due to the cold temperatures over winter during which the car was stationary. Even though i marked the fuel lines, i may yet check that i got them right. Things i know are: - The fuel guage says 1/4 - The return line was originally loose and fuel came out (since been tightened) - The fuel pump operates for a few seconds when you turn the key to the "on" position - I have surely cranked the engine enough to get fuel through the lines and fill the rail . . . but - The ecu should not be the problem because i have tried two of them, one of which i know for sure worked before, and the other came from a good source - The wires to the injectors are in the order of each next wire on the harness to the next injector - The wiring from the ecu to the injectors has not been altered, and the harness is plugged in - The EBII harness is being used and is connected to all the same types of sensors, including those on the EL bbm - The fuel pressure regulator is connected to the vac tree - The engine sat for some time out of the engine bay with some covers over it and got rained on, almost all of the orifices were plugged but maybe the fuel return line wasn't, but that was pointing downwards

I suggest whatever you do don't give up the ability to start on LPG whenever you want to. I think both my systems are such that if you switch to LPG while the engine is not running, it will start on petrol until the revs reach about 1200rpm. But if the car was run on LPG and you stop the engine and restart it without flicking the switch, it will start on LPG. I wouldn't know however if it throws an amount of petrol in for good measure as well. Imagine running the car on petrol until it's empty and then not being able to start the car and run it on LPG because you don't have enough petrol to do so. It's crazy not to be able to switch to LPG start. I really want to know how to start my car on LPG whenever i want to.

Even though i marked the fuel lines, i may yet check that i got them right. I would definatly be checking the fule lines are the right way. This is the exact sypmtoms of such a problem. Andrew

well as you found its a fuel related problem..
have you swapped the fuel lines around incase they were the wrong way around ??? |

I marked them . . . they are so hard to get to . . . they are still the old ones so i don't like to fiddle with them any more than i really have to in case they fail . . . But, i later figured i can probably swap them at the lower end where they plug into the fixed lines on the car, and that ought to be much easier. Damn, i should have bought new hoses this afternoon, oh well. If the fuel filter doesn't fix the problem the hoses will get swapped tomorrow.

More news, the petrol hoses were indeed around the wrong way. The engine now runs, but that didn't put me in the clear.
The engine would only just idle and sometimes stall, so i enlarged the small holes in my ISC gasket, now it idles okay. Then i noticed oil flooding off the side of the block, one of the trans cooler pipes had a hole in it, so i replaced it with trans hose. Then i noticed a strange high pitched air noise coming from the bbm. I figured the upper/lower gasket i re-used wasn't sealing, so i replaced it with silicone. I also noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust. When i removed the old sparkplugs they had oil on them, i figure the engine fell over during transport. Then i noticed smoke coming off the exhaust manifold and cat. It didn't seem to clear up. I did spill a little bit of oil when filling but i didn't figure there was anywhere near enough to run all the way down to the cat. Otherwise i wonder if the air entering the bbm seal resulted in a sensor making the fuel really rich and thus there was fuel burning inside the exhaust, maybe the exhaust manifold is a tad permeable, or maybe smoke can come out of the gasket, and maybe the cat has a permeable seal as well. I don't know? I also noticed both thermo fans running.

getting there.....
the smoke comming off the exhaust is fairly normal should go away in 1/2 hour or so...

So far i've run it for about 5 to 10 minutes. Is the smoke from dust burning?
I decided to let the bbm silicon dry overnight before i start it. Unfortunately there will be a bit of silicon protruding into the air chambers, restricting and creating turbulence in the airflow. But at least it should work and get me going. If i care i can put a new gasket in anytime later.

The smoke will be oil you left on the exhaust manifolds - from your hands or anything else.

There has been no more smoke
I don't think there was actually an air leak in the bbm, because the sound was kind of there after i did the silicone gasket. The engine was idling at low rpm and i think this was causing a harmonic. I don't notice the sound anymore.
