Hey guys
I remember seeing a thread on here sometime last week about wether or not altenators can be interchanged between e-series 6cyl cars . . . Im on my phone at the moment so can't really search for the thread so was wondering if someone could provide me with a link?? Either that or can someone please answer my question - will an S1 EB altenator work on a S1 EL? Charge properly, fit straight in ect . . . Cheers Grant |

I don't think it will fit properly as the pulley for the belt are different

The mounts are different too, EA-ED mount down below the PS pump, EF/EL mount up top.
Also they are rated for different outputs. Hit up a local wreckers or the for sale section mate. EDIT ford-parts-for-sale-f17/fs-ford-nl-fairlane-wrecking-t92404.html That guy is wrecking an NL Fairlane, I'm not sure if he would separate the ancillaries from the engine. But it's worth asking, he's in Victoria too.

It will still fit but i think you have to modify the top bracket slightly if someone can confirm?
and also it is better to put the ef one in as its 110amps output EDIT: i just read that this is for an ef, i thought it was about an early E-series

In which case it's still the same anyways. Don't listen to what I say

You CAN NOT use an EB alternator on an EF or EL.
The EB alternator is only rated for 80amps and the EF one is rated at 110amps and the EL one for 100amps. The EF ignition system requires the higher rated alternator to function correctly as well as the thermo fans and other electical goodies. The housings are different also, as the EF-EL alt is not adjustable for belt tension like the EB one is due to the different belt arrangement. The alt brackets are also different that attach the alt to the block. It is possible, and has been done before, to fit an EF-EL alt to an EA-ED with the old 3 belt setup, but it requires a bit of cutting and shutting of the EA-ED alt adjustment bracket. BenJ
