Engine balance is one of the main reasons I have always been a fan of straight 6 engines and have always stuck with them.
No balance shafts, no bank duplication Whats better than a straight 6. Its a turbo straight 6. Its a good article http://www.autozine.org/technical_schoo ... mooth2.htm

A V12, even better still a quad turbo V12 such as in the Ford GT90. |

Sure a V12 is nice, if you don't mind the weight, complexity, space consumption, etc. A twin turbo six can provide all the power you want, and still be smooth.

I remember working on the old Audi's with the 2.2lt 5 cyl engine. They were so smooth.

I've been in a front engine volkswagon transporter which has a transverse 2.5L inline 5cyl. The power and torque and fuel economy were great, but the owner didn't like it because it has an off-beat nature.
