I spotted something off my bosses boat today at work. It was a 3" diameter 12V fan/pump that sucks water through it at one end and out the other. I dont know what sort of RPM it would be running at but the idea behind it would be to try it between the air box and TB on a relay setup to see if it would possibly suck more air, kind of like a supercharger forces air, obviously at a slower rate. How effective it would be I dont know but is it worth a try to find out?

nope no good, air volume varies as the engine speed increases and it wouldnt keep up with the volume.

some one was selling this idea on ebay a while ago its not very effective and a waste of time, as opto stated, but yea its good to see you thinking

it will actually create a loss in performance because it is a huge restriction. It is unlikely to create boost even at idle.
however trying to sell it would be easy as they were selling 12V computer fans on ebay for over $300 |

Can you imagine what a 80mm fan would sound like as the end of your intake piping. TURBO!!!!!
Sorry, that's the ricer coming out of me. |

it would only work if it coulf force a big volume of air in, well above what it would suck at maximum rpm. and im not sure that it would work well anyway.
so until then, no it won't work

If you could get it spinning fast enough, but i doubt it would flow enough. For a note, a turbocharger spins very fast, i belive it is usually in the 100's of thousands of RPM when it is 'on boost'

this is true, a "fan" would generally not spin more than 3000 or 6000 rpm, depending on the amount of magnetic poles. |

the RPM the fan does is only 1/2 the equation of making boost, the other half is the diameter, size and pitch of the blades
