hi again
iv accidently posted this in the x series forum so i have reposted it here.. sorry.... i put the bbm on my ea today and i have a problem with the car only running on 5 cyl and every 10 or 20 seconds a pop out the exhaust which tells me that the plugs are firing and i tested the injectors and they are all getting power and using a screwdriver as a stethascope (putting handle to my ear and point on injector)they are all ticking.. could it be one blocked injector.. or possibly a sad plug lead.... also when the bbm has no vacuum is it on the short or long runners???? |

update...
ive fixed the problem it was blocked injectors i just swapped the ones that were on me log manifold.. the car has so much response now.. 2 dark black lines out the front of my house dont lie.......... but it needs the bbm switch to be connected .. as it seems to run out of puff after 4000rpm i still dont know what the manifold is switched to when it has no vacuum.. as that is how it is at the moment... |

cmon guys can someone please tell me what position the bbm is in when it has no vacuum.. short? or long? and is the short runner for high rpm or low.. sorry for the stupid question. but ive never played around with the bbm before.. |

as far as i'm aware its in long position below 3000rpm and short above 3000

so i think vacuum is turned on by the vacuum solenoid when it gets above 3000rpm.

That thread has the answer, comfirms what I was sure I remembered. When engine is off or no vacuum, the butterflies are OPEN, so short runners. Engine starts, butterlifes close under vacuum for long runners, till 3800rpm obviously.

You read that thread dude? When you take the top half off a BBM, the butterflies are open. The butterflies when closed block off the SHORT path in the BBM, forcing air to take the long runners. Hit 3800 and the short path opens, allowing air to take BOTH paths, but primarily the shorter.

However the solenoid allows engine vacuum to the BB switch to move the butterflies.

thaks guys
that means that mine is curently open and is using the short path... which should be for high rpm.. but when driving the car it runs out of puff about 4000rpm i will try to conect the switch today and see how it goes.... |

Just had a look under my bonnet. 1 big one goes at the manifold. The other large one goes to the vac tank. 1 small one goes to the heater control on heater hose under manifold. Last small one goes to butterfly switch at the front of manifold.
