Sounds like an earthing issue somewhere.
May need a better earth contact on the car ... or extra grounding wire run to the chassis.

there a 2 earths in dash by memory one on top bolt in center you will have to remove cover from top of dash. the second one is on the left hand side it is near ecu in kick panel.

well i just got home and yeah i was driving and it started again and more frequently now. so its getting annoying hahaha. thanks for all the replies everyone. Ive checked the earth wires under the bonnet, all secured nicely and no dramas and car still runs fine.
Moran i think u just hit the spot. becos i just put the kick panel back that covers the ECU and yeah since i put it in it started to do the power cut. so i might need to check that EARTH wire. cheers mate ill give it another shot tomorrow and get back to u all. cheers phong

hmmmmm well i checked all the wires near the ECU and also the earth and everything seems in order. i think its time to buy another ECU and see what happens. Anyone happen to have one lying around that they want to get rid off for cheap? preferably in melb so i can pick it up as soon as possible.
I need a 3 speed ECU since i only have a 3 speed auto. i wouldn't mind getting a 5 speed manual ECU and a transmission if anyone is offering . Cheers phong

3 speeds don't have TCM (transmission control modules).. so therefore just get a 3,4,5 speed ECU, doesn't matter.. Just make sure its MPFI, or TBI or whatever you have.
I have a 4 speed in mine(with a T5 manual, which is the same as the 3 speed in terms of control), and I have just chucked resistors on the sensors. All is well. Im building my megasquirt as we speak, so Im not gonna need it shortly. So if nothing comes up until then, you can have mine. Cheers

Id love to borrow it off u but ur in sydney so that might just be a problem. Ill ask my friend to see if he has any ECUs left since he has like tonnes of EA parts around. thanks for the offer but ^_^. hmmm might just get a 5 speed ECU so i can just buy the T5 next year when i get the time. hopefully that works. by the way is 120bux for a ECU cheap? im not too sure about pricing of ECU. cheers phong

hmm.. I got mine for $40 lol. Just get an auto one for now.. don't go wasting obnoxious amounts on a stock ECU.
Oh an PM Nigel, if you're nearby, he should have the 5 speed EA manual ECU that I sold to him ages ago. he said he still has it, but not using it. Cheers

yeah i decided not to get it. instead i booked my car in at some place in fawkner for a check up. gonna cost 125 bux for a full check up and he is dynoing the car to see if there is anything else wrong.
justfordima ill ask him to for it ^_^. by the way would the 5 speed manual ECU fit in my car? my car is mpfi and i know that the 3 speed is not electronically linked to the ECU so there shouldn't be any problems? phong

Yes, the 5 speed is fine, as it's practically the same as the 3 speed ones (no transmission control). A 4 speed one would be fine aswell, just need to stick two resistors on two of the sensors (gear position, and temp sensor).
Cheers

i guess id have to find a 5 speed manual since thats what i was planning on doing next year.
this may be off topic but is it worth spending about $4000 on the EA? new 2.5" redback exhaust, extractors (already got them), engine rebuild and hopefully get a different cam in there while its being rebuilt. engine polished and that kinda jazz. cold air intake and T5 conversion. and if possible get respray paint which is an optional thing. phong

Worth it... hmm, no. Any money you spend on the car you'll probably never make back. If you respray it, and rebuild the engine, it will sell faster.
But Im probably never selling my car, so I don't care about resale value, and just do things that make my car feel that much closer to home if you know what I mean. Cheers
