well that totally sux
i drove from work just before and it started again. so i think problem is still there. going to go back to the guy who did it for me and tell him its still happening. all i can think of now is what Slapper EA said about the ECU. so i might need to borrow my friends ECU for a while and see what happens. bah this is annoying me now.

lol... that's gotta suck. Just borrow any ECU. (EEC-IV).. you can make any of them work. It will atleast help determine the problem (eliminate a possibility).

Cheers

alrite nigel is going to send me the ECU but he says it might be stuffed but im not too sure i took it anyways.

i took the car to the mechanic again and they say it might be the Dizzy, Leads or coil or something along those lines. The guy says that dizzy cap might be cracked causing it to earth onto something else which might cause the car to stop and then settle down and restart. could that be a possible problem?

cheers

Also that ECU nigel has was tested, and worked fine, unless he did something...

Oh well, good luck, and let us kno how it goes.

Cheers

well i just got the car back from mechanic today. and its working fine so far. drove it around before and the guys at the garage did say that the car was misfiring. The electrical stuff only turned off and on becos the car was trying to turn over again like when u start the car from stand still. so ECU is fine but im still getting the 5 speed Manual ECU. all i need is the rest of the manual stuff and im set to get it converted ^_^

cheers for the help

i received the 5 Speed Manual ECU today. is it wise for me to open it and look inside? or just leave as it is? im not sure if its stuffed or not. or should i just plug it straight in to see if it works?(by the way im not sure if there is a proper way of doing it)

cheers

Just leave it as is. Plug it in.
As for your problem.. if it's trying to start, just like that, it's probably a shorting of some sort on the starer solenoid. Have a look around there for clues. Does it grind when this happens?

Cheers

well that problem is now fixed. i got distributor cap and coil replaced. but i seemed to have another problem :S. this car needs some major rewiring.

my other problem is this. I was about to drive to work so i started the car. started normally with no problems. Then i turned on my headlights and the engine and power just cut off. like it was short circuiting. So i looked under the bonnet with my phone and looked at the relays, the wires and jiggled them around a bit. started her again, she turned over, flick the headlights on and car just shuts off and power off. the only thing that was on was the interior lighting. I went out for the 2nd time and jiggled the wires. nothing was happening. i turn the key to accesories but no power. power windows gone, CD player gone electric mirrors gone. with the ignition on the "ON" mode the dash wouldn't even spring to life. i dunno what wire or relay is causing this problem but i sure know its somewhere along those lines. any help would be appreciated

cheers

When you turn the key to 'start' does the relay click and then nothing?
This whole thing sounds like a dead or dying BEM. If it does it again or when it does it again give the panel above your left knee a good whack with the back of your hand with the key at start. If she fires up then I reckon it means you need to change the BEM. Of course I could just be talking out of my a***.
Mine does this all the time, especially in hot weather when it has been shut up sitting in the sun.

no, when i turn the key nothing happens. none of those gadget lights in the cluster light up. neither does the radio or power windows work. so its like its been unplugged. the interior lights work though.
so i dunno whats wrong

cheers

Yeah, thats what I meant. Nothing works. There may be a small relay click under the bonnet but you can't always hear it. Just try and smack the panel above your left knee with the key turned to start and it should go.

Yep, but you don't have to belt the top just give the paneling left of the steering wheel directly above your left knee a rap. This is where the BEM sits.
Apparently, and this is not gospel, the solder on some of them wasn't too crash hot and cracks and expands in the heat causing an open cct. You can change the module easily and pretty cheaply but mine has been doing it for about two years on and off and I am just used to belting it when it happens.
