for a while i had an ecu out of an ED and when i hit 180 i got the big blehhhh thing the car does when it hits it.. So yeah.. EBII = rock on. |

Just wondering are you hitting the speed limiter or rev limiter?

back in 1996 i brought a low ks 92 EB11 gli falcon, i was young, stupid and curious i remember clockin 190 in 3rd, in 4th the needle was off the speedo with just under half throttle left, i used bout 3 quarter throttle before slowing, i have no idea how fast i was going, sceary stuff on 205/14's never again. tip: holding it to the floor will only slow the speed

I thought the speed limiter was introduced with the EF.
And by the sounds of it the diff gears have changed ... and yes it will put the speedo out too ... unless you have changed the speedo gear as well. Hope this helps ReGiE.

3rd on a BTR 4spd, and 3.45 gears, takes you to (a theoretical) 207KM/H @ 5900 (just past rev limiter). So calling s**t, or speedo is wonky.
* assumes tyre size is not too far from standard.

Me and my mate Chris tested the speed limiter theory on thursday/friday nights of last week. We were told that every falcon, with exception to the xr's and other special models from EF onwards were speed limited to around 185kph, and sombody else said that this applies from cars EBII GLi onwards, so, we tested both. EBII climbed to around 210 (guess based on the distance off the clock it was), and the AUII Fairmont came in at around 225, the cars did not limit this at all, and they both had some go left in them, especially the AUII, both are the 6 cylinder auto, and believe it or not, the au was running lpg on the run. I dont really care if sombody disagrees, but these figures are the result of our test.

The speed limiting is done by cutting the injectors, so of course you'll get past it if you're running LPG or an aftermarket ECU.
Not all EB's and ED's had speed limiters. Manuals didnt have a speed limiter, auto's did. Some early EBII's didnt, others did. Quite strang really. Also worth noting that the EB/ED V8's dont have a rev limiter!

my ef has ran 200, but i have also hit the limiter on a tickford gas el wagon, funny when it hits.
ive only ran that sort of speed a couple of times, cos of the tailshaft letting loose can flip a car and do much other damage like this, see.... http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27962 |

Any one any info on cooking a limiter? or a good crab soup? maybe with a blowtorch... it's an ecu function that cuts fuel when you get to a certain amount of revs.... you could cut the tacho signal to the ecu..... but then it wouldn't know what fuel etc to put in and would either stop the car (turn off the fuel pump because the tacho is below x no. of RPM) or destroy your motor.... There is no tacho signal to the ECU, the ECU generates the tacho signal
