Wondering what the consensus is on these?
Is that an opening to the engine bay I see on the side near the radiator hose??

id say it may be able to be used with EA-ED log manifold setups, just needs to be blocked off

i say the hole is ether for a ea-ed log style intake or for the CAI piping
it looks ok but how hot will the metal get once the car is in traffic for a few sets of lights?

Or maybe it lines up with the standard airbox hole where the normal "primary" snorkle would fit?
Dunno - but for approx $450 posted I'm a bit dubious Might look into doing a pod in the existing box setup Will need to research on here whether that would be a waste of time though first

Not for $450. You can get a full 3" intake from pod to t/b from Defillipo for that.

maybe that hole is for intake tube to feed it more air as with a sealed unit like that you arent going to get much air from directly behind the head lights

I'd say it be would the hole for the factory intake snorkel. The box has got the right design in sealing off the area behind the headlight - BA/BF models seems to get a lot of airflow behind the headlight (mainly from the gap between the headlight and bumper), which is why most of the well known aftermarket airbox's out there nowadays (Blue Power airbox, SS inductions growler, G&D airbox etc) use this concept. For that price you could make up a DIY version of the airbox, buy a decent sized pod and some mandrel bent piping, or do what most people do and upgrade the intake snorkel to XR6 turbo spec and fit a typhoon secondary intake.
Saw this the other night on ebay though.. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/COLD-AIR-INTAKE- ... 4091wt_834 These airboxes look to be a better design than the Flying Performance one, have a cleaner look and are a fair bit cheaper. However I'd use a much larger pod filter and redo the intake piping in 3" mandrel bent pipe from the pod in the box to the throttlebody (or to the plastic bend off the throttlebody at least) |

I would get one of these unifilter rampod kits that mount directly into the factory airbox, matched with a F6 lower snorkel it would be very effective.

I fitted the rectangular Bunnings pvc downpipe to the lower airbox last weekend, cost all of $2.25 as the scanner wasn't picking up the $7.54 shelf price, but want something for more growl! I can't really tell if it's better, the car does break loose easier when turning from a standing start, so I guess it is getting more air.
Anyone fitted one of these airboxes yet? Much to gain with stock tune? |
