ISC works a treat in my EB Ex-taxi, which was converted to BBM with EL ECU. Yeah, I've never had issues with the ISC apart from a couple of occasions of crankiness which was fixed with a good clean. As I said tho, after initially fitting the BBM but still running the ED ECU I was using ED ISC - and then when I fitted the EL ECU I went to an EF ISC. That was because I found the EF ISC wasn't happy with the ED ECU and the ED ISC wasn't happy with the EL ECU. What more can I say. The other thing I've found that can upset the ability of the ISC to hold idle is the cam and ignition timing - for ages my idle was only just correct - and the idle adjuster screw was all the way out plus I couldn't run any ignition timing advance - then I put a plate under the ISC (experimented with various sized holes in it till I got it right) and now I have adjustment again on the idle screw (ie. in self test mode can set the idle as per workshop manual) - ie. can compensate for ignition timing advance.

Something I larned when doing the MoTeC install is that with optimal timing and fuel at idle, the ISC is only capable of passing enough air for the engine to run at 900rpm.

Whoah so many replies!
The problem started after the manual conversion not after the BBM conversion, and I am using a manual ECU so it's confusing??? The reason i don't want to run an EL ECU is because I love my trip computer too much I might replace the fuel filter, even though I only replaced it 2 months ago. Could it be the fuel prump maybe? Car has been taking longer and longer to start in the mornings over the past few weeks. Hyena I like the ISC switch idea Car drives great without it though, so much more compression on down changing |

There's also the chance that the ISC driver has died. I've seen it happen on ^jAsE^'s EL Manual ECU - one day its idle just fell to s**t. New ECU fixed it up.

Oh, ED Trip computer should work on EL ECU, but EF/EL trip computer wont work on EA-ED ECU.

Also quick note, some manuals or omst ive heard the idle does drop to about 1000rpm+ then drops down.. according to yobbo its a ford thing being so when you change gears it will not drop revs completely.
I havent had mine connected for about (ISC that is) 6 months+ at least. but remember im on straight gas.. And been having a bit of problems lately so put it back on and everything for now seems to be sorted. If yours is dirty, i suggest getting a 10mm taking those bolts off and putting some carby cleaner thru it and a airhose to dry/clean it out then put it bcak on (ps. do NOT overtighten the nuts as they WILL snap. just tight enuff to hold on!) |

Yeah it's nice and clean now but still having issues.
The revs will hang at more like 2500rpm, so very hard to live with lol. I bought the ECU off XR8 Dismantler and he said it was a Manual ED XR6 one, so I'll trust him. It does have the same part numbers on it as a mates ED XR6 factory 5-speed. Maybe your right that the ISC driver is dead, so If I swap ECU's with my mate that should tell me if it's an ECU problem or not hey? |

Even if you just try an auto ECU.. it will give you a better idea.

I just disconnected the ISC lead on my auto I6 and went for a drive. That felt nice. Almost felt more responsive at the treads on take off too. Could be my imagination. But it definitely feels smoother to drive, and when I did a few turns and a U'y at the end of the street. I loved how the rev's instantly went down and the engine went completely unnervingly smooth as I turned around at the engines idle speed. I tell you what it felt like. It felt as thought the hanging engine rev's weren't fighting the automatic like usual. I'll leave it off and see how it starts in the morning. I take it the ECU will still give it the rich cold start protocol.

if i'm not mistaken, your car should run with the ISC disconnected, as you are meant to bump the base idle up so that the car runs with it off... so if its stalling without the ISC on, that'd mean the base idle is set too low... yeah?
