For some reason or another, even though I have a manual ECU and the correct loom my car has a major hunting idle, and if you rev it the revs hang. If I unplug the ISC all the problems go away.

So does anyone happily not run the ISC, I can see how it would be of use with an auto but it seems more trouble than its worth now with the manual.

Otherwise, anyone got any ideas on how I can maybe fix it? Could the problems be because I have an ED ECU and the TPS and ISC are from an EL?

Cheers!

Haven't thought to clean it yet, I cleaned my old one a few times - if that's what's causing my issues I'll be happy - doubt it though.

Is the EF/EL one meant to be open with no voltage going to it?

I gave it a clean and measured it to be 9.6ohms (which is good), but the valve in is open with no voltage going to it, whereas I'm pretty sure my EB one was closed as default.

Have you tried fitting an ED one?

ED one will hit the bonnet on the BBM :)

Voxace: Why dont you run an EL ECU?

I'm currently using an EF ISC - have been since fitting the EL ECU - but up till then I was using just the original ED one - it used to touch the insulating blanket under the bonnet (left and imprint in it) but not the actual metal work.

I disconnected mine about 2 weeks back after having idle issues and havent looked back. As sickd said in the morning when its cold its a bit of an issue and if you just turn the key and leave it the revs are a little low and once or twice it's stalled if I dont hold the revs up a little for 30 seconds or so.

I might wire up a switch through to the cabin so I can flick it on and off - turn it on in the morning and leave it off for general driving.

The revs fall away pretty quick when changing gears (manual) so you have to adjust your driving style a tad but I much prefer it to the revs sticking which is what mine was doing. It also sounds better when you rev it and it drops back to idle quicker rather than gradually falling back down :)

It seems fuel consumption is quite a bit better too. I don't know if its just a co-incidence but around town in traffic my trip computer reads about 2l/100ks better which is more than welcome with petrol prices ( I paid $1.30 for PULP the other day! )

The MSII will cure my ills when that comes along, but until then I'll go without the ISC

It sounds like something has been over-looked for you BBM converted boys.

ISC works a treat in my EB Ex-taxi, which was converted to BBM with EL ECU.

I had hunting idle on my EF XR6 and the idle speed controller was replaced (for $120 thanks Scotty). It kind of fixed it for a few days but the problem returned.
I think the first thing you should do is replace the fuel filter. If its blocked you'll get this problem. I've just replaced mine on the weekend and the car idles and drives like new. Fuel filter being cheap if its not that then your only out of pocket $20 not a few hundred.

I had an induction service by Ford and an ISC replaced and it didnt fix it. The problem kind of went away after the ISC was unplugged but it wasnt that.

Please change your fuel filter first then look at other things.

My fuel filter was blocked so bad I couldnt blow air through it.

My 2 cents.

Easy, 2 spanners and off it comes (might even get away with one spanner, but I used to to hold it steady)
The filters aren't terribly cheap though, I bought one from supercheap about 6 months back (the specific falcon one) and it was $37 which is a bit steep when most of the others were half that price or less...

An adjustable wrench for the filter body and a 14mm spanner for the fittings.
Get a Ryco Z373 filter.
Depressurise system by unplugging the fuel pump take both connections off. The big one is the power the smaller one is the fuel qty sender. Start car and wait for it to run out of fuel and die.

Get underneath and undo both fittings. Wear gloves or get covered in fuel  . The Ryco filter will give you the best seal becasue its an aluminium cannister. Most others are steal and the metal isnt malleable enough to get a good seal. You dont have to take the clamp off like I did. You can move the 'out' line away so you can slide the filter out.

The filter should only cost $25 or less. Get the back wheels on ramps or axle stands.
