You gotta remember for the most part these are not highly refined engines, they are low reving motors, stuff like penrite HPR is good oil for these motors, they will take pretty much anything other than another cars sump. before going to nuts on the lifters, what sims are you running? wave they been fiddles with? have they ALL gone back in the same way, with the oil channels in the right dirrection, if its upsidedown the lifter may have failed from lack of oil.

hans:: new head, everything in the head is new.. reground cam, no shims (as lift height was kept to factory, only duration/timing changed) dctodd: engine builder did the job, not a backyard thing -- its been running fine for 9 months, just this Out of the blue tappet. Getting back to that wiki extract :: blocked oil feed or collapsed lifter causing tapping to not go away:: I was positive it sounded like a collapsed lifter (anyone looked at this yet __ https://sawltw.blu.livefilestore.com/y1 ... g?download __) but i went and chucked in some Nulon Lifter free stuff, and you know what, 5 kms down the road, the friggin noise dissappears. Was it a blocked lifter then? after a long cruise down the coast, the LOUD tapping has definately gone, but i can hear a faint lifter noise that wasnt present before. Will see what it does tomrrow. l8r |

mine only ever make noise if the oil is dirty.

the Nulon lifter free stuff has worked a treat, started just now with no noise. Im hoping that it was just a blocked HLA.
Jose:: good point.. I've emailed Tighe Cams to see what their response is to the use of no shims. |
