Okay we just got our EF Falcon ready for sale, it's got a RWC and everything now after fixing a mirade of problems... but now the intermitten start is back! On the day we are trying to sell it! ARGH!

Basically what happens is the engine turns over but there the motor doesn't start. I've had this problem before and it seems to be intermitten. If I leave the car alone for a day or so, it will then start fine. The motor runs sweet once it's started and doesn't have a problem.

I've heard this is most likely the BEM causing this right?? I've been beating the s**t out of the area recommended in case it's loose but it doesn't seem to be helping. ARGH! Someone help so I can get rid of this 1 1/2 ton capsule of misery!

I think the most common fault with the BEM is not cranking if it is then that is not the likely cause of it not starting. If it is intermittent then it could be the fuel pump.

Could also be a loose wire or something somewhere or your coil pack may be on it's way out if it wasn't replaced for the RWC.

phong =P~

I doubt it's the coil pack because this would stop the engine when running right?

What pins on the diagnostic connector do I need to hook up to get ecu codes btw?

AU99 is that the round one or the square one you pulled apart?

when you turn the accessories on can you hear the fuel pump in the tank ? makes like a buzzing sound , if you can good chance its working fine , crank angle sensors can cause a no start but dont think it will cause an intermittent problem

Yes it was the Crank Angle Sensor!!!

Took it out, and it was caked in old oil... so I cleaned it up, degreased the crank wheel bit with degreaser and cleaned the contacts and it started straight away! WOOHOO!

Glad I didn't take the BEM out looks like a pain in the a*** to get out.

Well the car seems to be working fine now I have cleaned the Crank Angle Sensor up... doing a search in here there seems to be a lot of people with my exact same symptoms but they never worked out what was wrong. I just had a stab in the dark regarding the CAS because the way I figure it, if the ECU can't work out where the TDC is on start-up it should refuse to fire. Once the engine is running and if it can't detect TDC, I assume it just guesses based on previous data so you don't get a random engine shutdown.

May I just verify if your Crank Angle Sensor is dirty or broken your car won't start. LOL

Hopefully we can get it sold before anything else breaks.

i assume you removed the balancer to take out the sensor?

cause mine is caked, but it wont come out because of the dowel it sits on
