Sorry to bring this post up, does anyone know if you can now buy head studs for an AU-6 off the shelf (other than the $400 Atomic ones)?

I have a pending enquiry with ARP about head studs to suit the SOHC EA-AU 6 cylinder, as soon as I get a set and test them out to make sure I'll post some pics and more info and see how we go..

So I ended up with the $400 Atomic ones (as ARP didn't have anything when i needed them), it took a fair bit of stuffing around to get it right (i.e. they sent the wrong size, then the second set was the wrong thread with 2 different bolt types....after a stern word with the manager he personally checked my 3rd parcel before it come to me, all good) but they have now been in my motor for more than 6 months with no issues. (I did have to modify my rocker cover to clear the new studs). Running over 20psi with no issues. FYI the Atomic head studs didn't come with any torque settings, turns out they need 80Nm first go (with the bolt grease on the washers), then up to 95Nmto finish.

My shipment from ARP arrived today with the studs for the SOHC six. I will test them out tomorrow to validate their correct fitment and will post up some pics etc.

FYI I contacted Atomic recently and their studs are made in house and are not ARP product. For anyone that's interested to see why ARP are so much better than any other fastener available check these clips out:

Yet Atomic have been proven with years of use and no reported failures of head or main studs. |

I'm not knocking their product I just can't see how they can justify the $400 price tag...

Because they work, and they are still the only off the shelf option, everything else is custom order.
If ARP added the part number and made them easy to get, the atomic ones would drop in price. |

I fitted the ARP head studs in an AU block at the workshop today. Fitment is excellent, I will get ARP to make up a kit with the installation torque specs and Ultra-Torque lubricant when I place an order. At this stage I anticipate kits will cost ~ $350 with freight, duty & GST included. If you're interested please post your name and how many kits are required so I can order enough in the 1st shipment.
Cheers. |

For that price, it's easier to just pay the extra $50 and order them from atomic and have them arrive in the same box as all your other parts.
Because you'd also be buying main studs and a girdle. |
