I have searched around but can't find any info on this forum or in the parts books.

OK....I am going to turbcharge my AU 4.0L and would like to get rid of the standard main and head bolts. I have heard reference to using ARP bolts in the Ford inline six but can't find any reference to them in the ARP catalogues.

Does anyone know if a direct replacement stud kit is available for this engine? Also, if there isn't, would the BA XR6T main stud kit fit the AU engine.

Thanks eveyone.

 If I lived in a major city I suppose I could walk in with my bolts. I here in the sticks you buy thing out of a catalogue.....no one stocks anything.

I even sent an email to ARP requesting a quote to manufacture them as they do custom sets. I even sent along autocad drawings of what I wanted. Never got a reply as expected.

Oh well......maybe I can make them myself.

get in touch with shop through Email. and arrange to send them the sample.

you may find you will need to have the rods machined to fit the next size up bolt that ARP make. Though i've heard of peaple use the 4g63 bolts

Not completly off topic but slightly left field. Has anyone ever used head studs instead of head bolts on an I6? Would this be possible, and yield any benefit?

There are some ARP head studs that could be used. They are about 25mm too long but with 25mm spacers made up I think they will fit well. ARP advised me some time ago but didn't tell what they were from.
I also faxed them recently to get the part number with no reply. Will try again sometime soon.

I wouldn't worry about main studs unless you are going to put a gurdle there but there are also some 25mm too long for this

use a set of 250 crossflow rods, same lentgh but not sure of what has to be modified to get them in there, but they do fit, then you can order arp bolts to suit them and you will have a super tuff bottom end.

might even be worth checking if the 200 rods will fit if your building a real tuff engine, longer rod= better crank angle, free torque...

just a thought, would be interesting to see if it could be done.

I remember when EA Falcons first came out. Everyone was buying engines from wrecks for the conrods because they were stronger.

Now I could use crossflow rods but I want to use the 6" rods in the AU engine. I thought about using 6" Chev H-beam rods but the bigend is too narrow and will flop around on the crankpin.

I could also buy purpose build conrods that are super strong but they cost a fortune and are generally not warranted as the standard rods are reported to work fine.....even in a high output turbocharged engine.

I will try the 4g63 route and see what eventuates. I can sell them if they don't fit. If not I'll get the rod bolt holes drilled and fit other rodbolts. I'm more concerned with the mains and head stud kits as these will increase durability immensely over the standard bolts.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Come on ARP....get ya act together and make us some decent fasteners. :)

i hate to mine an old thread............but i must i must , i too am looking to get some arp head studs as i`m thinking of doing an engine freshen up soon, i was at ford spares yesterday to buy a sample of my standard head bolt, i mentioned ba bolts to the sales guy wondering if they where any better than the AU ones, he said lets have a look, the thread/ bolt thickness is identical, however the Au bolts would be about 3 to 4 cm longer than the ba ones  .
that said i`m after an ARP distributor/seller in Melbourne (northside if possible), if some one can help thanks in advance.

Good digging there, you have discovered the lost mine of...... something. 8-)

ARP wont have a listing for any Ford Inline 6, other than the 240/300 cube US engine. Because they are a US company, and won't have the info/sample to make head stud and main stud kits for our engines.
I know it is possible to get ARP HSK's and MSK's for the BA, as well as the Alloy and Iron head cross flow 6's. Havent seen one for E-series or AU I6's yet, but anything is possible. I know ARP will make a kit to suit your dimensions, but you need to tell the exactly what you want, and they wont be cheap. I think Rocket in Sydney may have a kit for the OHC I6's, might be worth a call.

BTW, unless your making big power, the studs or bolts from ARP will be a bit of a wank..
Also, with a HSK, sometimes you will need to remove the studs anyway to get the head off in the car, if you need to. May as well stick with bolts...

you are correct Sooty72, i thought i`d try one of the specialised speed shops local but i missed him or he`s on holidays, anyway, i thought autobarn might have a contact with ARP, but they called rocket instead  not sure if it was sydney, i got pretty much the response as what you said, ba stuff they have but the au bolts are quite long (odd size) :( , allthough i have a couple of ct26`s to put on down the track, my thinking was more about haveing a more consistent clamp pressure on the head with the hope of a bit less bolt stretch than the standards ones, being able to reuse the studs is a bonus.
i`ll see if i can talk to arp direct, and let you know how i go.

Check out Atomic for head studs (http://www.atomicperformanceproducts.com/index.html), Part number 306654. They seem to be the only source for head studs, but are really expensive (around $400 a set). The thread is the main issue - not many bolts available with that thread. I use a half-inch grade 8 bolt with ARP washers and tap the block to suit. Costs about $80 a set. These bolts are reusable and you can use regular torque to tighten them (they are not a stretch bolt like the std items).

Budget there's nothing wrong with Spool rods..
http://www.spoolimports.com/content/SPO ... ONRODS.asp
B/A studs mains fit AU but ONE bolt requires spacing and shortening if using
high volume oil pump...
Head studs can be bought from Atomic..
They still may have mains studs too ???
