It was a a common known problem with the earlier E series 4L engines that the front of the engine runs too cold due to bearing nearer the thermostat housing, plus the typical cooler conditions at the front of the engine bay. Interesting to see how they worked around it :)

Is it wise to block water passages with a gasket? I mean - im not questioning Ford, ACL, mechanics from this thread...

It just seems that you have water moving through the jacket and coming up against a gasket... surely its going to try and work its way past the gasket eventually... ?? Or are we talking extremely low pressure ??

its not that great a pressure, and besides, it has other places it can run. The rest of the gallerys SHOULD be sufficient, but ive never had anything to do with this sort of thing

they have been doing it for years with out any problems.. besides imagine the pressure the gasket is under when the head bolts are torqued down!!!

if you can try to have a look at a stripped down engine and i think you will understand it a bit better

if your comparing pressure in the water passages to those in the combustion chamber during compession and ignition cycles than yes, the pressure is much lower.
