Hey all, a couple of simple questions for you. Do all AU 4.0L six cylinder engines come with a crank girdle as standard? Or was it just for the HP XR6 engines? Also, will the crank girdle fit the EL 4.0L six cylinder main caps?
Thanks in advance for your help! |

All AU do have it AFAIK, I don't think it is going to retrofit an E series as the AU sump forms part of the structure when its all bolted up. I doubt it would clear the old sump. AU sump will give you clearance problems on E series.

All AU and up engines have some sort of a crank girdle. And thre are 2 types.
Earlier engines had different main caps and the girdle to suit. Later engines had E-series style main caps, and a different girdle to suit (This girdle has been carried through to the BA engines). Either setup requires AU bolts, as they are much longer. But unfortunately the bolt heads hit the standard E-series sump under cylinders 4, 5 and 6. If you could enlarge the sump there, it will fit. So I can say, been there, tried that... Didnt fit. |

The EL Hybrid engine had the main cap girdle fitted, and had the the main caps that had the ears on them for the alloy sump when it came along on the AU engines.

No they didn't. The caps were similar, but different to AU caps. |

Had the same main caps as AU, but no threads were tapped into the "ears".

I have both styles of crank girdles in my garage now, which were purchased from Ford. Which ever way you try, they both do not physically do not fit. I have tried. The caps are similar in that they have the flat sides ready for drilling and tapping, but arent as tall to suit the series 1 girdle. |

um well i have a early single piece au girdle on my el right now, and there was no problems fitting it at all. just needed the au bolts.

how thick is the girdle itself?
how thick are the thru-bolt bosses? Dodgy Bros method could be lightly "clearancing" the tin sump over the bolt holes with a rubber mallet. Just wind the bolts out a few tuns from being snug and tap away. When tensioned you should have adequate clearance. Alternatively shorten the thru-bosses on a mill provided you mains bolts don't bottom out. I'm just doing the HV sump and windage tray for my SVO motor at the moment and was strongly considering the one-piece girdle shown above (if i could find one hint hint ). Tried to purchase the windage tray from Ford parts counter and was told its not a serviceable part (ie: cannot be bought over the counter). Spewin because i don't want to raid it out of the BA engine i have sitting here. Anyone seen the BA version? in this pic (of Dansedgli's) i would assume its hidden by the windage tray.

the bolts don't come close at all, the only part that comes close is the very back corners of the girdle plate.
