My 2002 AU3 VIN tells me different...
yea i thought utes/wagons would share the same badge. I would link you to a MOTOR write up about it. stating they couldnt understand the creation of the XLS, due to its similarities, but have lost it in my favs. If need be i can take a photo of the cast iron TICKFORD logo and numbers on the block if word isnt enough. also shares the same "Adaptive Shift" thing. that i know my old XL didnt have. anyway. as for your intake plan to spend 100 for a pod, snorkel in the box, add another 100 to that if you want to make the piping out of alu. |

thats my setup BA filter box BA K&N filter custom made CAI is now finished off BA flexi hose if you can get your hands on a BA filter box they are allmost a direct replacment and allready have the bigger outlet the BA flexi hose makes the job piss easy and keeps it "stock" looking good for a person like me on my p's ive noticed about a .7l per 100km drop in fuel consumption and its more responsive at high speeds especially up hills

a BA box would be good, im also eying those acron ones on ebay but cant justify 270.00, the are like the G7D ones.
Anyway heres mine for another idea, i only used the alu pipe as i broke my flexi tube, and that wat was available at the time. |

Guys you are all legends for the wicked and insightful response to my dramas..
But here is a thought for you to chew on for me Would it be feasable for me to increase the size of the intake pipe and make up a wider mouth for the intake out of maybe stainless plate or even alloy plate...going right the way across one of the fins in the front grill At that width and the height of the grill gap I should be able to almost call it forced induction wouldn't I. That should surely increase the amount of smoke the bear is putting out at the rear wheels

If you look at page 10 of the ...""show us your air intake "speel you will see what I mean by spreading it across the width of the bonnet. but I am thinking putting it in the grill not above the radiator support panel.
I will talk to a sheet metal fabricator when I see him over the next week and get back to you all with the verdict. That intake with a BA box and a pod filter should work the trick from what all you guys have been saying. Thanks heaps and LONG LIVE THE BEAR

there isnt much difference in flow between a BA panel filter and a pod
If you make a flat template of the pod filters size and put it on top of the panel its only just bigger and wouldnt make even 1kw difference the extra time and money would be better spent as you said developing a ram air system

as for the wider mouth idea
it seemed to make a difference for me was a bit more responsive at high speeds im still going to extent my one down and cut that top part of the grill off so it will have about 160cm squared of intake
