cheers guys ,ill have a look tomorrow but my brake lights are operating normally now, would that not mean the switch is fine ? I thought the cruise disengaged from a pressure switch on the brake master cylinder ??

usually the cruise disengages from the brake lights (when the lights turn on it sends 12 volt to the module) the one on the mater cylinder is your back up and doesn't normally operate unless you tread on the pedal hard... This is wired in fail safe unlike the brake lights one... When is sends 12 volts to the module all the time and when you brake hard it removes the 12V signal...
This way if the wiring becomes damaged while your driving, the 12V is lost and then the cruise disengages because the back up switch has failed... To test... Hook your test light to the chassis and piece the light green wire as it goes into the cruise module... With the key on the light must light up... If it doesn't there is an issue here... If it does your switch is working fine... Piece the green with white and get someone to press on the pedal and the test light should light up (key on again) If both of these are right then its the signal not getting from the switches to the module (unlikely though as you said it turns on)... Thats the process of testing your cruise module... Cheers, Tim
