I've found a au engine for $1350 which covers the cost of the engine and installation. The engine has 130,000kms and a 6 month warranty. Does this sound like a good deal?

That price for supply and fitting is pretty good.

what i dont get is how every replacement au engine always seems to be advertised with 130,000kms on the engine, your looking at at least a 8 year old motor and most fords are used as work cars and family cars driven every day

That's a decent price for that kind of work.
Working AU motor ~$500 (?), labour to install will probably be $560 for 8 hours @ $70/hour (correct me here mechanics...I know motorcycle mechanics charge $80/hour), plus other miscellaneous stuff such as oil/coolant etc.

Average price up here is $100-$120/h My rate floats between $95 and $120 depending on what i'm doing. I did an engine in an XH ute (hybrid engine) a while back and it was drive in (well tow truck in) drive out for $1700. $250 of that was the engine, these parts. It got new sump gasket, rocker cover gasket, intake manifold assembly from old engine, front and rear crank seals, oil and air filter, oil , coolant, a hand full of hose clamps and some engine enamel. and labour. All the wreckers here wanted $800-$1100 for an engine. I got the engine we used from a bloke that works at one of my parts suppliers. |

Crazy, I get charged $80 an hour from the shops (strangers), and that price is steep for motors. That is without converting to AUD. In saying that I would pay $95-$120 an hour for labour if I had a mechanic who was sharp with these motors. I have yet to find someone in Tauranga who really knows ford motors (Open to suggestions!).

thats not too bad i spent 500 afew months ago for an au tikky motor and then 500 fitted so cost me $1000 fitted but the after market dizzy rooted it after afew months so about 3 weeks ago now me and my dad bought a standard au motor for $250 and fitted it our selves.we changed sump gasket inlet manifold gasket and afew seals here and there serviced the tranny and fitted the high stall. all up cost us about $360 running.i think thats a bargain.only took us afew days after work

I've spoken to a few workshops in southern cities and building rent is about half what I pay per meter. So if my rent was only $2000 a month I'd be happy to charge less. Most of the dealers up here are pushing $140. At $80/h I'd go broke in under 6 months. |

At $80 I get my head pulled off at @ 180 degrees off TDC lol.
But $80 p/h is fairly standard. My rebuilders are charging the same. In NZ I could get an AU motor with warranty installed for about $1000ish. All NZD |

Up in Tauranga mate, but why not do it yourself? Besides cant be f**k haha.
EDIT: As an example: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/ford/engines/auction-430931190.htm Got quoted $600 to pull my old motor out and put a new one in I believe, although AU to EF requires a bit more work, my quote was for EF - EF. Could get a damn good price if you pulled the old motor out yourself. |
