I know it's been asked before, but anyway. Will an AU motor fit straight in to an EF? or is there cutting etc involved?

mate you just use all of your looms off of your engine and there is a issue with the sump but can be fixed

im currently in the process now.
it will fit, although you will have to either - * cut and modify the K-frame *modify the sump (grind and weld OR use a ef sump that has been machined) |

I'd like to know as the engine conversion sticky doesnt state this.
What kind of AU engine will and wont fit the EF? What needs to be changed/swapped ? Which A/C to use etc? Can i still use my 1636 cam in an AU head? Cheers

Doofus, Basically the following needs to be done with the assumptions
1. You are getting a complete engine with all manifolds and injection, coil pack, heater pipe. 2. Old EF engine is removed from car, with AIR CON compressor still in tact in car. 3. AU ALternator is to be used. Ensure the mitsubishi type is used as the EF uses the same plug. What needs to be done: - Modify K-Frame, there is another post that discusses this For the old EF engine : - Remove top half of inlet manifold. - Remove engine wiring harness. - Keep serpentine belt unless replacing. - Remove knock sensor. - Remove crank angle sensor (where the dizzy usually goes on side). - (I think you also need the driving gear as well for the dizzy). - Remove oxygen sensor. For the new AU engine - Remove wiring harness and cut off rear temperature sensor lead as far down the harness as possible. Now attach this in line in the EF harness somwhere conveniant. This way you can utilise the AU temperature switch and still have the EF harness if required. - Replace top half of inlet manifold. - Remove stud for knock sensor using 2 nuts and screw in EF knock sensor - remove dizzy blank and insert dizzy drive gear. - Modify crank angle sensor so you can install clamp around it. This is because the mounting bolt hole is in a different position on the AU block. Insert crank angle sensor and clamp down. - Remove AU AIR CON compressor mounting adapter. - Replace AU oxygen sensor with EF oxygen sensor. Plugs are different. - DO NOT BE TIGHT AND REPLACE THE REAR MAIN SEAL. - (You can change the belhousing of the transmission of you want. They should only be about $40. I did not do this as I had no time to get one). - Leave the AU mounts. They DO fit. - Leave the AU exhaust manifold. it DOES fit. Once Engine is in the car: - For the Air Con Compressor, see attached pic. Instead of modifying the spacers, it was easier for me to use some M12 nuts and M10 washers. Nuts make for good spacers. This allowed me to use the original bolts. I think that is all. Hope this helps. Oh and is it worth it?? definately. I find that the AU engine is more responsive and even on gas you can feel the grunt.

Dont modify your k frame thats just silly..... Grind and cut the sump much safer way to fix the problem. I have had an au motor in my car now for 3ish months its great but i would have put an el one in if i had to modify the kframe..

The AU engine is also much smoother isnt it? Might get onto finding me one now! Any yeah, i was going to try the sump before i tried the k-frame. Thx fellas!

Hey Doofus, no problem.
gryph, thats a matter of opinion. Some of us prefer the K- Frame mod and some prefer the Sump Mod. Had I been able to do the Sump Mod myself, I would have. But being alloy, it would have cost me an extra $150. Where as the K-Frame mod I could do. I had a limited budget. + I had to buy the alternator. |

I've found an AU engine already modified to suit an EF, i'm guessing by the look of it, it's just the sump that is modified, is there anything else that needs doing? or can you just put it straight in and bolt it up? i know you prob have to modify some of the wires etc, but is there anything else major? Cheers Acidic
