Hi guys,
Looking at putting a AU bottom end in a ED just wondering what is involved in doing this? Whos done it? Is it worth it? What problems did you have? etc. Cheers Spider |

I'd say it would be similar to putting one in an EL. There's a document on how to put one into an EF that Ive got here.
If you get the VCT head, and decide to go with sequential injection, thats alot of pricking around. From what I know, you basically need to cut away at the K Frame, so the sump fits, and stick a dizzy in, and someone said an AU alternator needs to be used, not sure on that but. Cheers

from a good source
its cut away from front crossmember to make it fit run au alternator and you also have to run el harmonic balancer or it will ping just going on what ive been told buy 2 different people who have fitted it.

not much has to be taken off the kframe in an ED though

you dont need to touch the k frame, i just had au engine fitted to my ef, you use the same sump, just have to slightly modify the oil pickup, otherwise there is also a bearing i think it is on the rear of the engine that has to be machined to fit.. ill find out for you exactly what got changed, but otherwise its a straight bolt in....

The AU engine thats sitting in my garage has a sump where there is the crank thingy's... forgot what they're called... anyway, bolts on teh side of the sump. Did you use an EF crank?
Cheers

EF - EL sump will not fit onto a AU motor. to fit a AU motor into a EF you need to cut a small peice out of the k frame . |

it does fit on (cos i have the ef sump on the au motor) you have to have a part of the engine machined... my k frame was never touched.....
ill find out exactly what get changed on the engine for it to fit...

ok just found out....
to fit the ef or el sump... you have to have the rear bearing shell machnied... then it fits straight on... you will need to have a couple of hold machined into teh block as well so some other bits and pieces bolt on... otherwise thats it... dont need to mess round with the k frame at all... (thats straight from fords... thats also who put my au engine in...)

all that machining work, i think id rather modify the k frame.

yeah b4 i got mine put in everyone told me bout the k frame business... but when i had the engine put in the just sent a few parts away and got em bak that avo and whacked it all in..
but ill tell you what.. youll feel quite a diff with the au engine.. much better low end torque.. my engine was brand new so i had to run it all in.. but once it was all settled was much nicer and more responsive.
