Hey guys,
I was just perusing the forums about and AU engine into an EF and found the sticky and noticed this: "AU to EF/EL The EF/EL got an upgraded k-frame which is even more confined than the EA-ED. Because of this, it is not possible to grind the AU sump to get it to fit. Instead, the front cross member of the k-frame can be modified to clear the sump or the sump can be modified to clear the k-frame. Once this is done, fit the sensors from the ef or el engine and install." Is it really that easy? Is it just a straight swap, and will my ef xr6 manual computer and EA t5 bolt straight up??? Any help will be much appreciated! Cheers

Cheers hi yes its that easy.. other than the modifing the k frame it will fit in. you just need to use the sensors, manifold, mounts ect from the ef and it will fine on the ef ecu.. the only thing you might not like is the bellhousing is slightly different.. the e series one will bolt up but the 2 bottom bolt dont line up at all.. im running the ea 5 speed bellhousing on the au engine and its been close to 2 years now and the box hasnt come loose or fallen out lol.. (im still trying to find a au 5 speed bellhousing) i have seen them go for over $500 so ill keep using the ea one... |

Cheers for the reply. Well i guess that leads me to my next question. How much roughly would you looking at for a good condition AU motor???
Im guessingthat it wouldbe alot cheaper than getting a complete rebuild??? And one last thing, would my extractors and exhaust still all fit?? Cheers

Mitch,
I havent done any thing to my car. Its just that when it comes time to getting my engine reconditioned it would probably be cheaper to replace it with a newer one. Ive done 240K so it would probably help when it comes time to sell it also!!!

Yeh thats what I figured - I've done 230,000kms and decided that if the h/g blows or it s**t itself, it'll be AU time.
There is/was a mob on ebay who sell/sold AU motors with a modified sump for $750 ish. I would mod the sump over the K frame too. |

Call around the wreckess. I got quoted 900 installed in mine. And when it comes time to sell shouldn't really be considered. Cars are a money pit, you never get the money back.
