Hey all, well after some discussions and homework i have decided to fit a au engine to my xf bugdet build ute.already got the engine ( a swap for a case of crown ).the ute has already a ef motor in and running.i will also be fitting a 5 speed aswell.
my questions are:- 1.which alternator to use.all i have is a ef alt and doesn`t look like it will fit. 2.i think the ef air-con will bolt staight on? 3.do i have to buy a au t5 bellhousing or use my ef and drill and tap. 4.what advantages would i have running a au ecu or should i just use my ef ecu and sensor/wiring. thanks |

AU alternator with Serp Belt. EA-ED Alt with EA-ED Belt Setup but you'll have to modify the brackets. 2.i think the ef air-con will bolt staight on? You Need to add washers to the Plate if using EA-ED setup. You need to cut about 8mm off the spacers on the EF setup. 3.do i have to buy a au t5 bellhousing or use my ef and drill and tap. No, you'll miss about 4 bolts on the bottom. many have done it, and no problems as yet. I used a AU manual bell housing it looks much neater and I know i wont have any RWC issues. 4.what advantages would i have running a au ecu or should i just use my ef ecu and sensor/wiring. AU is sequential. But you will have a b**ch of a time fitting it. Best off Using an XG loom, Its a One of a kind loom and goes straight in but uses distributor. Other Things: You need a XG sway Bar. (to clear the sump (AU sump STILL needs modding to fit IIRC). You need a XG Fuel Tank. (Has pump Inside.. again a one off item). You need Lower XG Engine mounts. You need all the little bits like brackets for recovery tank, radiator. Also a XG steering box, (or get some pressure pipes made up) Late 91' XF utes was the last of the Imperial threads for ford, and XG used Metric threads. kind of .. "use up what we got stock of." I could be wrong, But I found heaps of Imperials on our car.

I have here
You need a XG sway Bar. (to clear the sump (AU sump STILL needs modding to fit IIRC). You need a XG Fuel Tank. (Has pump Inside.. again a one off item). Just need to pull them out of the ute. Would be after 100 plus postage, If that suits Brett

To "Krytox"
in reply to the topic you have given a lot of information inorder to do the au engine conversion into the xf ute, in you reply you have mentioned to use a lot of parts from the XG ute. I was wondering if I want to do this au engine conversion into my XG ute would it be a pretty much stright forward bolt on job? do I need much modification to make it fit? please please help as I am getting a bit tired of my E series engine. thanks heaps |

AU engine will fit into an XG ute with the sump cut down.
The engine mounts will fit. The Distributor will fit (use the AU driven gear to prevent mismatch) the Bell housing will fit but you'll miss a few bolts down the bottom, I'm not a fan of missing them, and I'd source an AU bell housing, however there are tons of people using an E-series on AU block with no worries. You will most likely need a timing light to set the timing correctly, or the 'yep she sounds ok' method will work too' thats all i can think of atm...
