hi guys, when my ed 4.0l engine goes or if something goes wrong with the head and it works out cheaper to put a au 4.0l engine in i want to do that.
i get the idea that the sump has to be shaved a little to get it in but i want to know how i can bolt the ed 3 belt setup to the au engine. please dont just say troymans post as it doesnt have enough information on using the 3 belt setup with the au engine. please supply pictures on au engines setup with the 3 belt system. can i have full instructions and and as many pictures as possible on the au engine change using 3 belt setup. i searched and searched but no information on using the 3 belt setup so if i can have that information that would be great |

Talk to troyman... as in message him, he used to have it running on his AU engined EA until he upgraded to the single serpentine.
To be honest I don't see why you wouldn't just mount some fans and run them off a thermal switch... makes life a whole lot easier. |

so does the AU block have some slight mounting point differences in the alternator bracket area???

yep
in the above pics you can see the ed alt bracket and the silver bracket is what i made to extend it to meet up with the au mounting points. the silver bracket is bolted to the ed one to make it longer |

Oh by the way, there is no reason why you can't run the complete AU setup with thermos... the ED's are compatable with R134 aircon gas so no rooting around having to swap everything to make the system compliant... you should be able to plug everything in.
I don't think you have much to do at all; Grind the sump to get it to fit. Swap over the alternator plug to suit the AU model. Swap your lower thermostat housing with your original one (so you still have your temp gauge). Run your standard engine harness, manifold and distributor. Run EF/EL thermos using a thermofan switch kit. ($50) And you're done, seriously why root around getting it to fit when its so much easier to run with the serp setup. |

i already have thermo fans and as i have to get ac regased i wanted to save gas but will it matter by the time the engine or head goes to regas again and will i get my moneys worth of the gas by the time the head/engine goes.
is the e series xr6 got better heads than normal e series |

He's asked everyone these same questions before. Via random PM's to multiple members, multiple threads on this forum, and across multiple ford related forums under a number of different usernames. |
