To be honest you will get the same answers from everyone. Extractors, full exhaust, intake, diff gears. Then start going into cam, turbo all that stuff. Really isn't that much for "cheap". Heck buy a many conversion, gives them more punch.

ok cheers does stuff like cold air intakes do much at all??
and what sort of diff gears?? got a nc fairlane lsd to go in thats like 3.27 gear ratio yea? what would be the best to get the best accelration and top speed out of it? Last edited by Drapes54 on Fri Apr 08, 2016 2:44 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

A cold air intake or anything doesn't give you anymore power, but it will give some sight better throttle respond. And possibly run your car a little better.
3:45 lsd will be your best bet, the lsd you have should be 3:45 so that will give you a better punch off the line |

If you are really strapped for cash, here are the biggest bang for the buck mods IMO, in order of performance benefit:
- TI Performance Custom-Programmed J3 chip. $200 - Get your cam reground a couple steps hotter. Should be around $200. - Exhaust headers. $300-$400 new, under $150 used, plus cost of exhaust modification and installation (if required) - Cat-back exhaust. $200-300 plus installation, if required. - BA induction tube and 3" custom airbox exit. About $50. - Bigger snorkel and low-restriction air filter. Most of this requires some basic ability with tools. It gets a lot more expensive if you have to pay others to do the work. The J3 chip is a MUST. Ford left a lot of performance on the table with their conservative factory tune, especially if you are happy to run high-octane gas all the time. And you will get better fuel economy too. But the chip must be the last mod you do, as the right tune will be affected by all the other mods. If it's an automatic, look seriously at getting your converter high-stalled to 2500-2700 rpm. It makes it launch way harder without affecting fuel economy. Cost is about $300 out of the car, but it's expensive if you have to pay someone to remove and replace it. Install a (bigger) trans cooler at the same time - about $100. Have fun.

I completely forgot about the j3 chip tbh. They will be your best bang all around to be honest. So much potential in the computer

so do you reckon mod the engine first then get the j3 chip? what sort of suspension and wheel and tyre package go best with the car?? to get it to handle really good oh and of course brakes what would be the best handling mods? i was thinking some dba rotors from supercheap with some performance pads what sort of snorkle do you reckon a tickford one would open it up pretty good yea?

Get a cam, j3 chip and exhaust so its works together. Saves double backing.
Suspension I have no idea since I'm just running sl in front with ssl in rear on lowered shocks. Nothing fancy. Intake just make a 3" intake same route as factory airbox but use a pod on the end. No kw gain but better response |

Better performance (engine etc) or better handling or a combination of both? theliquidsauce wrote: Intake just make a 3" intake same route as factory airbox but use a pod on the end. No kw gain but better response Don't use a Pod filter, they are a waste of time. Get the intake pipework from a Territory and the airbox from an F6 with the additional intake pipe and fit a quality filter. Good quality panel filters flow better than Pod filters anyway. Drapes54 wrote: ok cheers what sort of suspension package would give the best bang for my buck?? looking at a budget build here First thing would be to check all your bushes and suspension rubbers as well as the condition of the struts and shocks. Worn bushes and rubbers as well as worn shocks will effect the handling considerably. As for springs, consider how low or high you want the ride to be. Take into consideration your driveway and the condition of the roads you travel on. As for wheels, 17" with 45 profile tyres will give a better ride than 18" with 40 profile of 19" with 35 profile. Lower the profile the greater the risk of rim damage on bad roads. Are you wanting to fit the complete diff or just the centre? You can't bolt the complete NC diff into the AU. What condition is the LSD in the NC Diff. 3.45:1 would be a better ratio than the 3.27:1. Yours would probably be a 3.08:1 single spinner. 3.45:1 or greater will give you better acceleration but lower your top speed. 3.08:1 lowers your takeoff but will give you better topend. All fairly minimal top speed difference anyway. Do you have a 4 speed BTR or T5 manual? |

why not find a wrecked XR6 and swap everything over
engine drive train not sure if the ECU will work ( unless you swap the bcm over etc just leave it out ), but if u get the J3 no need better head on the xr too! if you can find a s2 you can swap the lower control arms over and get the better twin piston calipers and larger discs stuff the high stall get a shift kit off ebay.. you will spin into 2nd easy with it on hard! but make sure you do get an auto tranny cooler! ( actually do this not matter what! ) My old auxr6 auto did a 14.9 1/4 with just a full exhaust, cai, and air filter! which aint bad for a car with 180rwhp! if you want to go faster for free.. dump some weight!

E Series is +6 and AU on is +36. |

His car is a 2001 so is either a series 2 or 3 AU, so he will have the twin pots upfront anyway. Can upgrade the fronts to BA and rears to Territory. |
