Hi all. I have a mate with a nice AU wagon which is stalling in hot weather.

It did it today coming back from Warburton, several times in a short period and when the cool change came through, it got home to Lara without further incident. (maybe 120KM)

They have had it in to Ford several times and the last diagnosis was a leaky AC compressor. Apparently when it is low on gas, it loads the engine up and the ECU cant keep the idle up... cough cough.

To me it sounded like it dropped a couple of cylinders before it stopped.

Does this sound like an ignition module? I wouldnt have thought that ambient air temp would be a significant issue vs underbonnet temps, but it does appear heat sensitive.

It also had an indicated 1/4 of a tank of petrol and made it home, so I dont think it would be fuel related unless it is something dropping one bank of injectors.

take it to somewhere you know and trust, might be crank angle sensor or ignition module im not sure but tip water on the front of the engine and see if its any better

the same thing happens with my ea in hot weather i have to keep the fot on the accelerator and brake at the lights

Ambient Air Temp Sensor may be giving wacky readouts causing it to stall with to much/not enough fuel being injected.

Thanks all. Where does the ambient air temp sensor live? Is it in the airbox?

At a stab it might be a PTC or NTC thermistor, so should be able to be tested with a DMM, right?
