apparently you can use a 977b cam as long as it is from a au . i was going to get a au xr6 head and put my ef 977b cam and rockers in but it was going to be more trouble than what it was worth

there is speculation that you can use an e series cam in the au head providing you use the e series rockers..
some say yes and some say no..ive dummy fitted one and it seemed ok but the engine was on a stand and never started...so i cant confirm 100%.. otherwise if you havnt got the cam yet get the wade au1645, this is the au equivilant to the es 977b... |

Well my brother rang flow craft yesterday and enquired about a ef head ( better deal than hoppers heads ) and the bloke said to put a au head on because its better than the ef. And he asked what cam and we said about the 977b and he said yeah that's a good cam to put in it .

well i was meaning the 977b ef cam, but im not sure if he thought the same or not, so i may have to ring him back up, but i might wait until i have the cash so i can order it at the same time.
flow craft supply the head, lifters, shims, valves, they also port the head. all you have to supply is the cam, and they charge $1100, whereas hoppers do the reco exchange with a wade cam, but no shims, no lifters. |

You can't. I have tried first hand. No compression, things open at the wrong time. You can't mis-match cam/rockers either, lobes don't line up. So if you want to use AU head you then have to use AU rocker assembly and AU cam (aftermarket to suit AU is fine obviously). |

The only benefits is the AU is a better starting point if you are going to port the head. Stock for stock the EF head will flow better.

It seems like a good to use the AU head, but seems like a bit of stuffing around, I would have to find AU rocker gear. Where as I have the EF rocker gear. The bloke from flow craft said something about the AU valves are smaller or something for increased compression?
