SOLVED by changing radiator cap -Try this before anything else HI-I have a slow leak in my AU headgasket- combustion chamber to and from water jacket. This seems to be common across all models-I dont know why but it is a curse. Does anyone have any easy fixes-Do any additives work?Can the headbolts be retightened etc?

Might prolong it but could well f**k it over even more. Just get it fixed dont bother f**k around with temporary bandaid fixes as they almost always come back to bite ya on the a*** later. If your handy with the tools you can do it yourself fairly cheap, if not its rather expensive...

need more info mate ,are you sure coolants getting into your bores? how do you know your head gaskets gone?
i personaly have never heard of an au head gasket leeting go ,but thats not to say it dosen't happen |

Theres the obvious signs as with the E-series....
Leaking down the block, steam from the exhaust. It can happen to any car. for all we know this car might have many hundreds of thousands of kms on it or had a really hard life. My ef head gasket let go at 160,000, and i know the Au ones are different but it can still happen. |

in my 4 years or so as a ford mechanic ive only ever seen 3 AU's need to have the head off, and 2 of those had corodded heads

The AU in Question has 212000k's-The radiator was tested and gas bubbling up into the little test kit changed its colour slowly indicating a slow gas leak into the water.I also am losing water and needing to top up.
I have been good at keeping up a good quality glycol in the system. |

bloody hell what have those people have been using tap water or something car that new dont tend to kill the head that easy

Iv seen an AU that only had 98,000kms on it do a head gasket. Mind you it had been flogged since the guy got it at 35,000km.
