Hey guys,
ive been a member for a quiet a while but mainly reside on boostedfalcon.net most of the time hence not many posts here. i need to know why my au heater isnt blowing hot air. Since i bought it it has never blown hot air it would be better described as warm but as of last weekend (when i chucked an XR8 dash in to replace the forte piece of crap) it wont blow even warm air. My coolant level sits comfortably within the 'normal range'. I think the problem has something to do with the cable that runs from the temp selector knob on the dash to the heater box. When my dash was out i checked that the flap which re-directs air was properly operating and it was. However it didnt seem that i could properly tension it, it was sitting way to tight. I can easily select the hottest setting but when i try to turn it all the way to cold it goes and then flicks back a couple of cms. Does anyone else agree that this is likely the problem? Bearing in mind that the air is cold, not warm. All help/experience appreciated. Cheers |

This may sound silly but, have you checked that the Heater Tap has the vacuum hose attached and also, if the Heater tap is working at all?

Im new to au's but is it under the car directly below the heater box?
If so how can i check it? |

Yes it is, just need to get under and feel the tap, see if it has the vacuum line attached and check if there is any rust around the Tap?

hmm i may have missed a vacuum line when re attaching the dash. Im guessing that its a black hose?
didnt think of it at the time but i attached the main collection of vacuums but i may have missed one. How can i test for vacuum? i was also told that when u unplug and replug them they can lose their seal and not work :S |

I haven't heard that before about the Vac lines but I can't see that as they have to be taken off to replace the Heater Tap if damaged. The heater taps on AU's do wear out a lot, the replacements are better as they are all plastic..

yer i did. This car is my new one and it doesnt have a low coolant temp sensor like my old fairmont, also the overflow bottle has gone cloudy, so its not transparent and for some weird reason the lid was stuck on, so with a little persistence (and a hammer and screw driver) i got the lid off and found the coolant level was extremely low.
Ive got friends at FTG nissan near my house so i took it up on the hoist for a good look and found the bottom radiator hose leaking, so i replaced that (and obviously filled coolant to necessary levels) and turned my heater on. It was DAM hot once it got to operating temp and even though it was a 33 degree day this made me smile knowing it was an easy fix. So i concluded that due to low coolant levels not enough coolant was getting through to heat the heater core. Also after the dash had been replaced i found how to adjust the heater cable and that made a big difference too. |

Good to hear you got it all sorted.
One day I'll have a proper look to see why my heater on my EF Fairmont Ghia doesn't work. Never has. I've replaced the heater valve because the old one was leaking, going to replace the climate control unit soon, hopefully that will sort it. JT |

its common for the blend door motor to go in them.
That is a full day job to fix and its a small little part too. There is a diagnostic procedure you can use to diagnose the problem, ill see if i can find it now. Last edited by rhys.c on Mon Nov 02, 2009 7:13 pm, edited 1 time in total. |
