G'day lads,
Sold my EF II XR6 six months ago and now looking to for a new car. An AU III VCT XR6 ute has caught my eye, and i was wondering to get the low down on them.
2002 5 spd manual, 64,800 ks.
Hoping to find out the common faults with them and any additional info.
Thanks guys

AUlll XR6? They're faultless mate.
remembering the AU didn't do well in the showroom so Ford's selling point on the AUll & lll was RELIABILITY & QUALITY, until the BA was release. LOL

go to fordforums & look under AU falcon.

Nice vehicle choice go to fordforums.com & look under common problems with the Au. A far superior vehicle to the EF(although the EF is a fine car) . I would rather drive my AU than my BA . Pm Casper (the VCT expert)

The VCT is a good engine stock, but you'll probably have to piss off the VCT when you mod it.

Blah blah blah. Sorry if my preferance to get professionals to modify my car rather than hobomod it in the backyard offends you. Been there, done that... grew out of it and dont need to do it anymore. If something breaks on mine... I take it back and tell them to do it right. So far nothings broken.

I cant see a problem with it... so its either a password issue or you annoyed an Admin. My guess is probably the second one.
Either way I'll ask to see if theres a lock on it and if there is I'll have it removed.

oh yes, sorry cosham.

The VCT's are a nice engine. The 5 speed is a bonus as well and really brings the car alive. Do the usual checks for leaking fluid (although they usually get cleaned off before they sold), take it for a test drive and give it a bit of a hammering and listen for knocks or strange noises. Pretty much the usual buying a car routine.

As for the VCT specific, the only problem with them is that there isnt the aftermarket support for them like there is for the other SOHC engines. Well, that and they were put in the ugliest cars fords have ever made but if you can live with that then they are a good deal (especially with the prices as low as they are now).
