Hello guys,

I've put some AU XR6 injectors into my EF as I read a bit on this forum about them being a good upgrade for the E series with their 4 hole design, I got some exchange ones.

I've got a CMS stage 3 head and 2A cam with full exhaust.

Anyways its running really rich and idling like crap, its turned new plugs black and it wont idle well. Its pumping black smoke out the exhaust.

Are they not suitable for EF?

Thanks guys.

AU Injectors are perfect for the E series 4.0.

Check your MAP sensor and hose and also your O2 sensor.

Thanks SWC,

Just right after they've gone in its started running way too rich, its already turned the new spark plugs black.

I'll check out the 02 and MAP sensors.

What I might do is I have a spare set of AU injectors here I bought off eBay years ago, I'll swap them in and see, just to isolate if its these injectors Bursons sent out to me.

You were 100% on the money, the vacuum hose from the MAP sensor came off, must have been when we were fiddling about back there.

Thanks mate, champion.

Gonna take it for a burn, try clear up some of that carbon it built up.

It idles fine in D and R but if you put it in park it revs up/down between 500-1000RPM constantly.

Seems to run fine on the highway though.

Disconnect the battery for an hour and reset the ECU and see how that is. If it doesn't fix it, check your TPS and ISC.

Alright, removed battery negative terminal over night and replaced ISC, TPS, MAP, o2 sensor and power steering switch.

Its a little bit better but still doing it, car has CMS Stage 3 head and 2a cam on it, maybe with this little bit of extra fuel from the AU injectors she needs to be tuned?

Extra fuel from au injectors isn't a big deal at all

I've had a problem like this b4 similar very very similar changed everything i did it was low fuel pressure causing the car to run rich

Check you fuel reg, it could have failed or the vac hose to it is blocked.

i'm not sure if i want to chase the problem or just put up with it in the work hack haha. still srarts nice in the mornings!

Pull the fuel filter and replace that first.

How often was it run on petrol? Has it had fresh fuel put in it?

If LPG equiped cars don't get run on petrol every so often the injectors can "Gum" up.

Thanks SWC
it mostly runs on gas, not sure how often it was run on petrol before i got it. i try to switch to petrol at least once a week even if its only for 5km down the road. last lot of fresh fuel was 2 months ago.

sounds like a filter change soon and a top up of fresh fuel and run it on that and see how she goes.
not sure if its the original engine but has done near on 300000km by the cluster.

2 month old fuel, probably starting to go off.

Add some fresh 98 and some injector cleaner and see how it goes after the filter change.

I've got a fuel pressure gauge, where is the best spot to connect it up to on an EF? There is no service port at the end of the rail like other cars.

I guess I could connect it up at the fuel filter ports but its before the fuel pressure regulator.

What should we be looking at fuel pressure wise at idle?

I changed the FPR for a new genuine Bosch 300kpa one from the XR6 models, still does it, at least all the sensors are new now so we know we won't have any issues with all of those.

It seems to do it mostly when the car gets to operating temp, and the AC clicks on or off, it holds the idle, AC compressor clicks in or out and then it starts revving up/down around 750 - 1000 RPM for a bit until it stabilises, then the AC compressor clicks in or out again and it does it again.

I'll hook up my fuel pressure gauge where the fuel filter is and we'll monitor fuel pressure and see if anything is up, we know the other end of it is right now anyway.
