It was recently pointed out to me that when putting an AU motor into my EB i can't just connect up my EB a/c compressor and off i go. To my recollection it bolts up fine, maybe with some spacers/washer required, but the pulley and hoses are different.
So which is best, to buy an AU compressor and get the hoses sorted out by an auto electrician, or find an AU compressor clutch and fit it to my EB compressor?

The EA will not fit due to the different piping connections.
The EB-ED will not fit as they are shorter in overall length than the EF-EL. The difference is in the snout. The pulley sits further away from the pump body than the EB-ED. You need to use the EF-EL if you intend to use the serpentine belt setup. BenJ

Hi Ben, yes, i intend to use the serpentine. Should i consider using an AU compressor, do you know how they compare to the EF/EL compressors, in this situation?

Well, I don't know the reason why, and I hope someone will let us know, but every conversion thread I have ever read says you need to use the EF/EL A/C pump.
I would suggest you go with what is tried and proven, unless we are enlightened otherwise. BenJ

Okay. Obviously an AU compressor will be a perfect fit to the AU motor and serpentine setup, so i guess the only issue(s) could be in the wiring, piping, and/or crossmember clearance.

Aha, well that sounds fine, i'll get an EF/EL pump then. Thanks Troy (?).

Hang on, can you confirm that i can't use my EB a/c compressor because the pulley doesn't suit the serpentine belt? I thought i could until i went to that wrecker recently.

unfortunatly the eb uses a 5pk belt and the ef/el uses a 6pk belt also the compressor sits about 1/2 inch to far back.. |

We fitted the ED compressor on ours..
We fitted a 6 rib pulley though... There was a plate that wreckers through in... It may have been from ute ?? To convert ???

I was told by that wrecker that i could fit a clutch (which includes the pulley) from an AU compressor to my EB one and it would work, the problem there is Troy is saying it still sits back, and you will only be able to get a clutch cheaper than an entire compressor if someone has a dud compressor with a good clutch to sell you. So, for me, i'm back to getting an EF/EL compressor.
