yeah - i'm just pointing out the problems with modifying the k frame. Yeah the engines are bloody cheap these days!
but yeah, don't make it obvious it's an au engine, all engine swaps are counted as mods (sure this rule is supopsed to be for putting and rb26 into an s15 or something like that, but thank the ricers for getting everyone tarred with the same brush.)

I heard it requires some machining work on the rear main cap for the steal sump to fit.

yeah it does, very easy to have done.
its a faster and neater way to go about it then messin around with the k-frame or modifing the sump

At the time I did mine I wish I had known that before I started, would have made the install a lot quicker.

Ive heard this mentioned a couple of times now, but I am yet to hear any details or see any pictures. If it is for real then great its another way of dropping an AU (and maybe even BA's) into e-series. Still, your left with the task of modifying the k-frame, the sump, or the cap/timing cover. Modifying the sump still looks like the easiest way to go to me, and it retains the alloy sump with the extra main cap support.

I looked at doing the cut/shut on the sump but my previous experience with leaking sumps lead me to the k_frame.
