Just looking over the AU engine I'm preparing for the Fairlane and noticed 2 coolant hoses connected under the BBM. They travel up between the inlet manifold/head, over the rocker cover and to the exhaust side of the engine. The hose is 3/8" diameter. I thought maybe LPG converter coolant lines but look to thin. My fairlane is connected like item 6 in the attached diagram. You can see the AU lines connect to the small steel bypass pipes under the BBM.

I would guess LPG converter too, not much else it can be.
Only other thing I can think of that needs coolant on the exhaust side would be a turbocharger with a watercooled core. I think LPG converter is most likely, even if the lines are undersized.

Thanks Steady. That was my guess. I think my original converter lines are 5/8 and not 3/8 like the ones in the picture. What do you think about running coolant from the 3/8" lines to the converter? How did the factory gas AU do it? Were these steel bypass lines fitted with factory gas in mind?

Yep LPG, my EL was like that when I got it.
I put a standard heater bypass hose back on. Cut heater hose marked 2 in your diagram at the lowest point (bottom of the u) and fit a T piece. The other hose goes to the bottom of the thermostat housing. Remove the coolant temp sensor and fit a screw in T piece as per pic.

Cheers Matt. The way you describe your current EL setup is the similar to my NF donk. I think I'll setup the AU the way you desribe. My NF I6 had a lot of coolant leaks in that U hose/ T piece area. I'll just bite the bullet and replace the U shaped hose and fit a new t-piece. Not sure where my second hose is. I'll have to investigate further.
Also I'm using the AU thermostat housing (no ect sensor.Using the AU sensor rear of head). I could just drill and tap the hole and fit the other coolant line into the side of the AU thermostat housing. I just want a setup that is reliable and doesn't give me lots of trouble.

Use a quality T piece and hose clamps and you should be right.
The EL gas system is about to be changed, just bought a LPG Injection under bonnet kit for it.....
