im currently running a eb series 2 in an 89 xf ute that shat itself today and wondering if a newer modle motor will fit??
besides mounts and ecu any other problems?

you can run any from ea to au without changing much if you use current manifolds. EF-EL just a bolt in, AU you should be ok, but would check clearance issues tho in the K-frame. lower bolts wont line up with trans/gearbox on the AU.

best bet would be an EF-EL motor with your current manifold setup, no need to change ECU then. Would be just like a normal engine change.
