Hey everyone,
I've got my hands on an au motor with very low kays. I have read a few topics on here about fitting it into my eb. Doesn't sound too difficult. One question tho - if i put my tfi dizzy and standard eb inlet manifold etc on the au motor - will i just be able to use my eb ecu to run the engine with no dramas? I would also be changing the pulleys on the au so it ran my normal clutch fan etc. If anyone has done a EF/EL/AU conversion into EB etc - could you please help me out Cheers, Rob

OK.
Firstly I would recommend not running the EB pulleys. it's probably more work than using the serpentine belt. The alternator bolts up differently for starters, so I don't know how you would run the older style setup with it. Running the original manifold shouldn't be a drama I wouldn't think. I think this will mean mounting the A/C lower (?), and using an XH tensioner. If you have smartlock, why not convert to BBM? Personally I just found it way easier to run everything as intended for an AU motor. You'll be able to put the dizzy in no worries though. |

Hey. Thanks for replying
I've been thinking about what you said and I've decided to go with the serpentine set up. So i'll just have to get ahold of a p/steering alternator and aircon pump of an au. I will also use the bbm now too. As I will be changing the ecu for the bbm - do you reckon I should go with an au ecu and run coilpacks or an el and run dizzy? I will also be putting a dash, cluster and centre console from an ef down the track too. So its important that an au ecu would run the ef dash components etc. I suppose I would also need the engine loom coz it will have thermo fan connectors on it too i guess?

Go EL ECU and Dizzy. Easier.
You can use EF-AU Power steering pump, and I think you will have to use EF-EL air-con, as I think the AU has a different setup for mounting the lines to it. |

Oh ok cool. So the EF/EL aircon will bolt to the au motor, but i still have to use an au alternator tho hey?
thanks for your help voxace

Yep that's right (I think).

I've just had a look at a few pics of au and ef/el air con compressors and they look quite different. The au seems to be more square and there are 2 mounting points on the top whereas the ef/el has only 1.
so unfortunately i dont think they will fit (unless anyone has successfully fitted an ef/el to au?) So i'll have to spend the extra $$ on an au compressor and then get an aircon place to modify the fittings to fit my eb aircon hoses etc.

ypu can uase the original manifiold and computer, but you will need a ef/el c/a pump with ef bracket as the eb bracket will mount it too far back. you need to get a slighly longer belt (not sure of the part number 0 and you will auve to modify the tensioner so you can turn it about 5 degrees clockwise. not the beast way to do it but if you want the budget option it works. i did this to a mates car and he was a a*** and didnt want to spend the dosh. just another option for you mate

Hey voxace. Did you have to use an AU bell housing for your conversion?

i just did the same sort of thing with my el, you will most likely have to go and get a mitsubishi electrics alternator around $130, ef/l power steering pump $ 40 and pulley setup, and also an au belt the ef/l ones dont stretch enough because they have a different way of going on, hope this has helped you
