Hey guys,
I have searched for everything relating to this engine conversion, but I have just one question, If I use the AU motor in a EL/XG not sure yet which car I'm going to use, can I just use the entire AU engine loom and ECU to still run the coilpacks? Cheeers. BRad Last edited by Bradelz77 on Sat Feb 08, 2014 9:00 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

Just use the engine loom that comes with the car and run the stock coil.
You could use the AU loom and ECU if you want but you will need to look at the dash as well as the BCM and ignition. |

Thanks for the reply SWC.
I noticed you're a bit of a god when it comes to these conversions so thankyou. So using the standard dizzy just take out CAS and put my drive gear onto dizzy? Cheers |

So using the standard dizzy just take out CAS and put my drive gear onto dizzy? Cheers The AU doesn't have the cam sensor in the "Dizzy" location, only the EF. The AU only has a unit there for the oil pump drive. Just remove the gear from that and fit it to your dizzy. Cam sensor on the AU is located on the timing case just above the Crank Position sensor. Just follow the guide below. If you need more info, just ask. Things required to fit AU engine to EF/EL 1) Sump needs to be modified to fit K-Frame, you can cut and weld the K-Frame but that is up to you, will need engineering after being cut. You cannot use an EF/EL sump as the sump is totally different to AU. 2) Need to use AU/BF alternator or you will need to modify the block and drill and tap mount points to mount the EF/EL alternator. If you use an AU I alternator you will need to change the plug for the alternator to one from an AUI as these are different from the Mitsubishi alternators. Note: The AUII & III and BA alternators have the same plug as EF/EL. 3) Remove the block where the Dizzy (EL) or cam sensor (EF) goes and remove the gear from the shaft and fit to your Dizzy (EL) or Cam Sensor (EF). This will then mean that the gears are matching and you should have no issues, there have been issues with dizzys failing when this has not been done. Some modding will be required to use the existing mount point, extra notch/grind Cam sensor. Note:Do not try and drill hole in existing EF position on AU block, you will drill through the block. 4) You will need to use an EF/EL thermostat housing as these have your temp sensor and AU housings do not. 5) You will need to use the EF/EL BBM as the uppers are different to the AU. Also us the EF/EL throttle body as some of the plugs are different to the AU. 6) Use the EF/EL wiring loom. 7) You will need to tap the block with an M12 1.5 tap if using the EF/EL Knock sensor. If using the AU sensor you will need to modify the plug. 8) a) You will need to cut the EF/EL AC pump mount spacers down to 30mm to suit the AU block as well as shortening the bolts by 10mmm if using the AU alternator to suit the standard serpentine belt. b) If using the EF/EL alternator with modified mounts you will not need to cut down the mounts and be able to use the standard Serpentine belt. c) Alternatively you can use the AU alternator , standard AC spacers and a Serpentine belt from an XH (Slightly longer). 9) Use the EF/EL power steering pump. This is a direct bolt up. The AU pump hose connection is different to the EF/EL. 10) You do not need to change the Harmonic balancer for either EL (Dizzy) or EF Coil Pack. 11) If fitting to EF you will need to use your original Coil Pack or an AUI coil pack as these are different to AUII & III. (different plug) 12) you can use the AU head or fit you EF/EL head, that is up to you. |

On the flip side, I recently fitted entire AU wiring into my ED which took me about 6 months to get ready and a full on week to swap out this was having a spare parts car I make the wiring up in so it fitted first go to cut down on some time... Mine was more involved than the basic system for my own reasons...
See my build thread (link in sig)... The contents page is a bit back dated but it has the start of all the AU planning and fabrication... There is photos of the motor and what I did to get it in my car there so you may find some help... If you need anything just ask... Cheers, Tim

Hi guys, Just wondering what are the advantages to swaping an AU into the EL? Also I see alot of people talking about swaping the heads aswel, are the EL heads better? Does this mean I build an AU with an EL head for a good engine? This is stage 1 im planning, stage 2 will be a turbo but thats a long way off atm. Thanks for your time

Over EL you gain the following...
No dizzy to wear out and damage Aux shafts Lighter better balanced crank 4 bolt style mains girdle plate batch fire coil EDIS better AC pump (if you make hybrid lines like I did) AU MLS head gasket If you run the AU PCM you also gain Run hot strategy sequential fuel injection better air con thermofan control maybe a few other odds and ends... Some people reckon EF had the best head and AU the best block... But I'm quite happy running the full AU package... Cheers, Tim

Hi guys sump all cut and looking good, just want to know how do I take the shaft off the shaft on the au motor and put it on my dizzy? I've had a look at it and I can't figure it out any tricks to this?
Cheers |

You don't take the shaft out, you remove the gear. There is a small pin holding it on. Use a pin punch and a small hammer to knock it out and the gear slides off.

Thanks SWC,
Another noob question, Do I maintain the AU A/C mount bracket and adapt my EL air con compressor? or do I use the EL air con bracket with the EL air con compressor. Cheers Brad |

Cheers Brad Are you using the BBM or Log manifold? EL or XG? My advice will depend on which intake you are using. |

Thanks for quick reply SWC,
The motor is going into a EL Falcon, I am retaining the original BBM. Cheers |
