Seems like Im using 1 liter of oil every 1000 km , cant find any oil leaks, not blowing smoke, have tried diffent grades of oil, changed spark plugs, was hoping to get another year out of the ute ( another 40 000km) any suggestions on the problem ?????????????? |

I stole it.
So it doesnt blow any smoke at all? Not leaking out the belhousing?(rear main seal) signs at all in the engine bay/ under the car?(sump gasget/ sump bung)

What actual oil are you running? This may help, you may still be using to light an oil. Its a ford I6, throw something like a 30 or 40W in there. won't hurt it.

while you cant generally see it blowing smoke it doesnt necessarily mean its not burning it..

Yeah, blowing smoke is not always obvious; my recently deceased (and much-loved) 1983 Pulsar hatch used about that much oil, and I never thought it blew smoke until a mate told me.
The oil is obviously leaving the vehicle somewhere; from the engine itself, or out the tailpipe. If it's not from the engine, there is only one other place it can go.

Try putting some 15W50 in it.

If theres is NO oil left on the ground then its either going into the bellhousing (not likely, because it would fill, and then at a certain pressure it would either no longer leak into the bellhousing or would leak from the bellhousing) or it is being burnt.
My AU burns oil like a diesal. I can't see it unless I'm revving the tits off it, because looking out the rear view mirror is above and beyond the visible range of it. If someone is behind me they will tell me they see it, but it has dissipated enough by the time it gets into the RVM zone for me to not notice it. Other than that, park it somewhere overnight after a good drive over a large piece of cardboard. Check for spots in the morning. Mine used to piss oil out of the pressure switch. Turns out whoever put the last one in didnt put it in far enough to grab (it is a bolt too big for the hole), and it had worked its way out.

Best way to test for burning oil (worn rings or valve seals) is to drive down a decent hill with a mate following, then gear down so you are seeing around 3000+ rpm, with your foot OFF the accelerator. That generates major vacuum, and any leaking oil will be sucked in and burned. If there is no smoke out the exhaust under those circumstances, it is highly unlikely that you are burning it.

Thanks Everyone
My mechanic preformed an inspection, on a closer look at the spark plugs had a build up of material, he suggested worn piston rings after speacking to an engine rebuilder, My mechanic thinks a second hand engine is the solution, just found a tickford 2002 au3 with 80000 km for $ 550 at my local reckers, my concern is other tickford engines have vct written on the rocker cover this one doesnt, if it is vct do i need to change my computer and wiring since mine is a 2000 au1 standard engine. |
