depends which era the head is... The early ED's had the head which required the two half moon rubbers... The head was narrow in the scollops so that the rubber would fit down over the sides... While the AU rocker cover has the half moons in it and runs the skinny little gasket all the way around it... This requires the later head with the wide scollop sections so that this gasket has something to press onto...
I remember comparing this ages ago only to find that the rocker cover wouldn't seal properly... I know it definitely wouldn't if you went old rocker cover on a new head... Pretty sure the new rocker cover on the old head didn't look like it'd seal properly either though... On the contrary... It is a straight fit as far as bolts go... But they leak oil at the best of times, so no need to try and enhance it... Cheers, Tim

I have used an EL rocker cover on an early 3.9 head and had no oil leaks before.

mine has the half moon built into the rocker cover already, so hopefully should fit.thanks.
