has anyone here used the au steel gasket on the e-series head but had problems with alignment of the rubber timing cover seal?

the gaskets are visualy the same except the au has a shorter lip on the front-right side of the timing case which would be enough to cause a major oil leak. is there a way around this?

ill post a pic tomorrow sometime outlining what i mean.

post a pic and at the same time measure your piston to deck clearance to see what clearance you will get with the 0.60mm metal head gasket.
Technically you will be getting a clearance where the piston should touch the head at revs but so far I have found no one reporting this possible issue.

EA-EB timing cover gasket is different to the EBII onwards

i used an AU gasket with EA-EBII timing cover gasket.

make sure u clean the "corners" of the timing cover. place a small amount of silicon/gasket goo in there to seal it properly.

i had wondered if it was too thin, i got 0.62mm using a micrometer the standard gasket is 1.04 (but would flatten out to about 1mm). i cant measure the deck height now cos i used a another gasket to get it running again but next time ill check it out.


i tried one from an ed but it was the same but narrower than the ea seal but it also could have been from an ef\el i wasnt sure. next time i go to fit it ill have to do some research in finding out the differences between timing covers.

there is an easy way around the top timming cover seals. DONT use them.
they only serve to create a potential leak.

the AU gasket will work in any of the older OHC engines, for the top of the timming cover, go to a toyota spares outlet and get a tube of toyota black sealer, use a 5mm bead of teh toyota sealer instead of the gasket. the sealer will outlast the headgasket

mine went on perfect and i havnt got a oil leak and ite been about 7 months since i have done it
