Hey guys this has probibly been posted heaps of time in the past but i am thinking about getting a au tickford snorkle from Fern Treegully Auto Salvage (if in stock).

I have a 97 EL GLi auto, what differences would be made to the car performance wise, and are there any problems caused by the installation that will effect the cars every day runnings??

Thanks heaps guys

Paul

it wont make alot of difference
the difference is very small..
also try putting in a performance filter (K&N)
and yeh, little bit more air into the engine

Makes overa 3rwkw difference we found on a hot run with a redline/k&n filter (redline made by k&n, but stronger material and same s**t!)

Yeah make sure its the Tickford AU3 XR8 Snorkel and not the AU2XR8 Snorkel as I made that mistake before and bought the AU2 one and thought they were all the same size etc. But it wasn't as the AU3 one has a bigger mouth than the AU2 XR8 snorkel.

Go the el gt snorkel, i am still certain that au tickford snorkel sits to far back and the mouth gets blocked by the rubber on the bonnet.

Cheers Luke.

No you shouldnt have any problems with the AU snorkle, as long as you follow the directions that are given to you in the doco for it then it should sit thier very nicely. :)

Also throttle response is alot better after the filter upgrade and the new snorkle, worth it imo! Go for it.

bonnet rubbers are different shapes on ef.el compared to AU's. Even jim mock mentioned in one of his articles on his home page that fitting the wrong snorkel to the model of the car can cause bad gains.. go figure....

Jim Mock Motorsport wrote:
XR8 snorkles are good things - the custom filter also helps. The TE50 version is popular but incorrect fitting can reduce performance. The snorkel for each model is very carefully matched to the shape of the body and bonnet. Fitting the wrong one for your body style messes up the relationship. JMM will put you on the right track as to which one to use

he mentioned this in his article because there are two types of snorkels & he knows the EL gt snorkel fits the standard screw holes and bonnet rubber on the ef&el falcons without any modifications. Looks completely stock!!!!!!!!!!
