Hello again to everybody.
I have stumbled across a cheap, low km, AU VCT head. Now for my supercharger project I am installing an aftermarket ECU so I can refine my tune and have things like sequential injection, thermofans, broadband manifold ect. So I will be able to run an agressive VCT program aswell. Does AU VCT head have smaller ports than HP/Standard? Is there less potential with minor/medium headwork on VCT? Most importantly, am I limited with camshaft selection? I will need to select my camshaft carefully to benifit the supercharger. ((It's either this or working the EB head and having adjustable cam gear with agressive cam.)) Cheers to all..

use the vct head without tv vct if you catch my drift and install a blower cam.

Joe from CMS just built me up a AU VCT engine for my Powerdyne setup - it's his stage 4 with a custom supercharger camshaft. Might be worth speaking to him. I can't give you any info on it's performance as I havn't got it down from Sydney yet.

That sounds cool, are you able to pm me his contact details. What fuel/ignition management are you using? I am looking into Wolf V5 and EMS 8860, which I think could really benifit the VCT as "apparently" the standard VCT tune isn't too crash hot. Also "apparently" the unit only supports on/off rather than being completely active, maybe someone could shed some light as to whether this is the physical parameters of the unit or can be changed to be more active/refined with after market ECU?

Awesome, I will have to ask him some questions.
It will probably end up being best keeping it EB tickford but I get very interested with these sorts of technologies. Plus I need to have something running off the ECU otherwise there will be so many unused ports.

even being on/off you could still probably achieve better results with it on, albeit most likely with a custom cam to suit.

i would say dont bother with the vct head.... port your head or get the el hybrid head it has the biggest ports and is easier to port...you could expect close to 400 hp flow if you can find some one who has ported them before... vct head is a different casting and not many people know how far you can port them

I have been reading quite a bit and it has been mentioned that AU VCT outpowered the XR8 so had to be detuned, which means there is plenty more in the unit even with standard camshaft.
I remember a friend from a while back buying an aggressive camshaft for his ED XR6. It was a highly recommended camshaft and was the most aggresive profile you could use with standard EEC IV. Afterwards, the car had much more top end pull and jumped to 142rwkw but in the lower revs it was very reluctant which in my oppinion is a foreign element to these engines. My point being Surely VCT would have eliminated this problem and the car would have been much stronger in its overall rev range. By the way, it was by no means slow but it had an almost (hitting boost) kind of feel.....sort of

i think you may have missed the point...yes standard it does have a bit of a boost feel but once modified its all but gone... when my head was ported and i fitted a good system as well as some cold air a piggy back ecu and got it tuned the engine doesnt operate in those lower rpms and if you change the timing enough to take advantage of your mods its a little out of range..... i think if you leave the engine unmodified its very good but its just there to help the standard engine be more refind....but thats just my ideas as an owner and driver of a vct engined falcon...it is good that there is still interest in the engine buit its more about the whole au series xr6 as a whole car and evolution of the 4.0 ford inline six

sorry kinda of misread the cam part....the point though is as an example if you put a cam in say a au vct falcon auto xr6 and the cam was a bit big you would fit a stall say 3000 rpm and then the vct isnt needed....if you wanna know what the vct is for get a stock original xr6 vct manual and put it up against a blown commodore s on a nice aussie road drive nice and fast and see where the other car is...... also the xr6 hp was faster then the vct falcon and the xr8 and ford didnt worry about that! and the vct and xr8 were worth more!

Hmmm, I am thinking I might aswell keep it EB but oh how fun it would have been to muck around with a later model head . Now what will I run off my new ECU
