after owning both, go the au fairmont, just make sure you get a series 2 or 3
advantages ive seen, better seats, better ride, nicer inertia, newer most likely to have less problems, steering is a whole world better and probably most important you dont have to worry about head gasket woes you face with every e-series.. trust me mate, anyone that has owned one will tell you how much of a beautiful car they really are..

I gotta say the EL GT Grilles are pretty bloody ugly. Look like a gap toothed ugly sister of someone that is pretty. You showed up expecting Tina and got the dentists nightmare Ulga instead.
The rest of the E series maroon Fairmont is fine though, don't know what glasses you have on, but there is very little wrong with a EF / EL Fairmont Ghia. Even if it does have the GT like body kit all over it The AU with the Cobra kit in pure XR form is attractive, but the Fairmont AU's are crap. Huge bloody triangle headlights and a dashboard that looks like a designer got stuck half way through doing something useful and wanting to go home in time to look after the lapdog for his vegan flatmate who was going out to some iBook release party. Ah well, each to their own. I'd buy an AU2 or AU3 with the XR front end no worries, I like it... I like the XR AU fronts better than anything else Ford has made almost for ever! |

you could try to find a hybrid el..then you would have the best of both worlds. I have an xh hybrid and it goes as hard if not harder than my mates au... but i think i might have something to do with his driving.....just something else to think about.

iv driven both, though owning an au2, Ive driven the au a lot more.
In saying that, the au was a much much sweeter car to drive, on every level. Much more refined. Cant do much about the headlights, but drop it a bit even just on lows, and the car visually makes a lot more sense. The interior doesnt feel as cheap as the el (for non fairmonts.)

usually people who put s**t on them havent owned one or even been in one for that matter. We all agree they arent the best looking, but far more comfortable than an EL.
Each to there own i guess. If it was my coin i know which i would get. |

dad use to have an AU3 XR6 and and AU2 Forte, they are nice cars and do drive better than the EL's but i think its just the look that puts off alot of people. I do love the look of the XR's though, im a big fan of the AU3 XR8 220kw i love the rear bumper.
