Posted this already, however the shop I bought the car from had it for 3 days and the problems worse. When cold it takes 6-7 attempts to start the car, sometimes it fires then dies. They replaced the fuel pump saying it wasn't flowing when cold but this morning it was worse. The ignition fires a number of times then hesitates and I noticed a bang like a backfire back out the intake? It starts ok if it's been running though. F**K mechanics supposed to know whats goin on. Any advice?????????????

Sounds like it could be some thing to do with the timing to me.

Spoke to a mate who used to be a mechanic and he suggested a fuel problem. Possibly the fuel pressure reg. failing? Still cant believe it took a big workshop 3 days to F**k my car up

yeah check the fuel pressure gauge...if you have access to equipment check the fuel pressure at the injectors, only way you can find out if there is enough fuel going in.

Also check if there is sparks...leads might be rooted or coil pack on its way out.

If all is well...might get the timing checked as RedRoo mentioned.

phong =P~

Did check the spark and theres plenty. Plugs are new also. Its under warranty so if it was the head gasket could be a good time to spend some money on the head.

i had an el 6cyl that was the same..first thing it would wind and wind,but when it was warm would be fine..and like you my dealer went thru all the fuel type things...new injectors,plugs,leads,pump...etc..
turns out i had a small leak in my head gasket.water was seeping into the cylinders.
