shoot him a PM.....
I am sure he will answer your questions.... Nathan is pretty close to getting it on the road now (in the next month). But as you can see it is alot of work, just about everything has been changed in someway on the car. From running BA front suspension, AU diff with BA backing plates & Brakes, Doors with AU inners, Dash mods, full BA loom and the list goes on....... About the only thing on this car that is EF now is the Body... the rest is pretty much BA..... Even runs BA wheels and no adaptors...... (how to confuse a tyre shop in one easy lesson)

hey man just find a xr6 tichford el motor and use the 5 speed manual insted of convertin to the ba motor and manual ive got a 1991 eb running a el xr6 motor with the eb intake pelum so i could still run the eb ecu and full wirin ( cheat way if u ask me ) you can pick uo a manual 5 speed gear box in adelaide for around $500 and can get it fully fitter for $950 in londales adelaide

My plan is to do a bit of a dodgy, putting the BA cluster into the existing dash, even if it means hacking apart the current dash a bit. Then when I've got time/money I can do the whole BA dash/interior change over. How would I go with the ECU? Would I be able to take the motor, loom, ECU and cluster from the BA and pretty much "drop" it all in?

You still need the icc from the ba to run everything if you dont want to have to muck around with the ecu!!

wen swapping a ba/bf, doesnt matter which one. why do you have to use the ba or bf ecu...? wouldn't it be possible to get a DOHC motor to fully work using an aftermarket ecu that can understand variable timing? and a drive by wire throttle system..?
so what i am asking is you could essentially use the fatory e series wiring harness with a ba/f engine loom spliced into it, leading to all correct corresponding components you wish to use such as your fuel injectors, oxy sensor, temp meters, etc. and just plug an aftermarket computer in do do all the work? |

In theory yes, but I believe there is only one after-market ECU that can control variable valve timing and it is worth several times more than an E Series car is.
The BA/BF PCMs work so well, it is the best choice to use them along with an Xcal3 flash tuner. I have now completed my BA into EB conversion. It works. Cheers BenJ

the wolf v500 afaik can run duel vct but the ecu is over $2k,
and you can run the dohc on a cheaper aftermarket ecu, its still a combustion engine, you use crank sensor for ignition pick up and run coil igniter and coil packs, fit vernea gears to lock the cams and away you go,,,lol... |

well i have a mate that does some rally driving and navigation, also builds some of his own stuff from home. he gets those megasquirt computers/ecu's. puts them together himself. but they can come pre assembled so he says and there are another type that he knows of that he says can run dohc and plug straight into a eec IV plug, ie: e series falcons.
and only cost $400 |

an EF or AU ECU will *run* a BA motor if you ditch the VCT.
i'm not upto date with what megasquirt can do these days, wouldn't surprise me if the latest version or one of the addon boards is capable of running VCT, however the ability to plug into an EEC IV loom isnt overly useful given to run a BA motor properly, its not EEC IV. but hey, take your mates advice and see how you go.

it may not be megasquirt, but i think they are an american company that make these computers. but im still contemplating if ill even bother with DOHC or just stick with SOHC and just build the S**T out of it..
ill talk to him on facebook see if he can give me the website. i'll post a link up and whoever wants to can cheek it out. and double check if vct is something they can do. |

OK, just to clarify.
A BA engine in NOT plain VCT, like the AU. In the AU the cam is RPM activated and changes to a fixed position at that RPM and back again. In the BA, the DOHCs are continuously variable depending on rpm, load, throttle etc. In the BF, it works the same as the BA, but, the cams are independently variable to each other. It still works out much more effective, efficient and cheaper to use the correct factory PCM and purchase a flash tuner to edit it. Cheers BenJ
